I was wondering if anyone on the list has ideas of how to " nicely " kill yeast in

KT. I'm making some herbal extracts using KT (will report on later), and they

are growing ugly yeasty blobs. I've filtered some of them 2 or 3 times and still

see it. I'm concerned the yeast may be eating some of the good stuff from the

herbs. One of the things i wanna do with these extracts is to flavor KT, so i

don't care about yeast and bacteria, in fact i'd like to get rid of them. I know

GT's and other folks pasteurize KT, but i'd rather not use heat. I was thinking

about trying freezing, has anyone has any experience with that? What would i be

losing potentially? Beer and wine makers use chemicals, are there any additives

that aren't poison? Any ideas would be appreciated. - Woody

kefir grains can be stored in a freezer, meaning, it's not killing, only

hybernating them.

did you try letting the yeasts sink to the bottom, carefully decanting and then

straining through a layer or two of coffee filters?

if you need more, then filters used in beer brewing or water filters used by

hikers/campers. mine is $45, good for a million gallons and made with 0.1

micron material used in kidney dialysis machines.

i am happy with traditional vodka/water/vinegar extracts though.
