Guest guest
Today I decided to start taking on Slo-Mo with #2 Split: Back & Shoulders. It was a decent workout but I enjoyed Cathe's Slow & Heavy a lot more. It might have something to do with the fact that I worked out as soon as I got home from work and was really hungry. I grabbed a banana before I worked out but it wasn't enough. So, I'm not going to pass final judgement until I've done all 3 splits and have done at least one in a better physical place (but for today, I was not in love). I thought most of the exercises were good, she is more creative than Cathe which can be good or bad, depending on your perspective. For me, it was okay. I felt like my shoulders really got worked but I'm not so sure about my back, maybe I'll find out tomorrow. These require a stability ball, which I don't love using because I don't have a lot of space but for these exercises the little bit of space I have was adequate. I'm also not very experienced using the ball so there was the extra element of balance to some extent that made some exercises more challenging, which was good. I didn't love the music in this, but it definitely added energy. I didn't appreciate Amy's singing with it (her own lyrics too) but there wasn't much of that (and it was less annoying than Kathy screeching). Amy does not introduce herself or her backgrounders which I'm used to. In the beginning it seemed like I jumped into the middle of a workout though she does says something like "let's warmup for back and shoulders." She also doesn't do much in the way of instruction or form pointers so for some of her more creative exercises or ones I wasn't familiar with I had to watch and hope I was doing it right or try to understand what she was talking about and I wasn't always sure. That bothers me, especially when you work with heavy weights but I did alright I think. She did say, most of the time, what weight she was using and that made it easier for me to guess what to use. I was using 1/3 to 1/2 the weight she used and most of the time that was good. You do 3 sets of each exercise. For most of the exercises she uses a 4 up, 4 down count in the first set, then 2 up, 4 down in the 2nd or something like that and mixes it up more in the 3rd. I sometimes had to go higher, sometimes lower for the 2nd and 3rd sets but that was fine. I'm glad to have tried this at least. Tomorrow will be cardio, not sure what yet since I'm not sure if I have a PTO Board meeting before my afternoon WW meeting (makes a difference in how much time I have). I'm planning to do the other 2 splits on this DVD Wednesday and Friday and if I like those more then I'll try doing some of the premixes (which I think is very cool that there are so many and the amount of time for each is given on the menu too) sometime soon too. Gotta make some calls to get a snow plow contract set up then make dinner and work again this evening. The guy we had the last couple of years for plowing was not very reliable and I do not like being snowed in. Snow is already here too. Just a light dusting really, you can see grass and leaves clearly but it isn't melting and we will get more... sooner than I'd like...
