Attached you will find a press release presented by Community Now! a statewide non-profit organization working to downsize and consolidate Texas State Institutions (a.k.a. State Supported Living Centers) for individuals who have developmental disabilities, reduce the Texas Medicaid Waiver Programs waiting lists, and create systems of accountability.

Ramshaw from the Texas Tribune recently published two articles, "Abuse of Power" and "Abuse of Power: One Family Fight" please visit: http://www.texastribune.org/about/staff/emily-ramshaw/ to read the articles. These articles were written based on her research of Class I Abuse against individuals who live in Texas State Supported Living Centers and how Texas has failed to hold the ciminals in these cases accountable.

When you read these articles and the supported documents and then think to yourself this won't happen to my loved one, think again. What we have today can be gone tomorrow! And as long as these institutions are open someone may decide, after you are gone that this is the best place for your loved one to live. Places where the Office of Civil Rights Department of Justice found inadequate medical care, abuse, neglect and questionable deaths. Places in which caregivers committ horrific crimes and are not held accountable for their actions.
