Hello, 'Isfolly'...

No need to worry about tea leaves in the brew! It will not contaminate the

brew - just looks a bit messy. In Kombucha brewing 'messy' is o.k.!

The bits and pieces will get strained out at bottling time. Forget about

wearysome coffee filters! Tea strainer or fine sieve is good enough for

the job.

All the best with your new brew!

Margret, not really an expert, but of common sense peasant wisdom ;-)

everything. So I had already separated SCOBIES into separate glass jars and

pouring tea on them when I see all these tea leaves that have come out of the

bags! Cutback bags must have little holes. So I spent long time straining the

rest of my tea through a coffee filter but still have some tea leaves in each

jar from before I realized. Do I need to strain each jar totally before letting

it brew? Will those tea leaves ruin my brew and create mold and mayhem?

Thank you Margret. I am also concerned because despite being stored all these

months there was no vinegary smell - the brew was still sweet - did not taste

off, but did not taste like kombucha either. So I added vinegar to each jar in

hopes of stimulating it properly. Yes, brewing KT is cheap but not really

considering the cost of everything it was close to $7 for this batch if not

more.

If I need to start over - haven't kept up with recent events - hope I can get

raw KT in store if need be. I seem to recall that there was talk of legal

requirements to pasteurize in order to control alchohol content?

Isfolly &  etal,

Yes, there was an issue, all KT was pulled but in our area,

the booch has been returned!   And it appears to still be RAW.

I bought 2 bottles of GT and have an experiment going

right now.

The GT KT in my area is still raw and will grow a scoby - I know I have

tried and it worked.
