Hi,

I've been looking online for ages for where to by yoghurt starter in the UK - I

have a yoghurt maker and intend to make goats milk yoghurt but am confused about

which product I need - I've seen 'progurt' starter advertised - is this any good

and can it be bought in the UK?

thanks in advance

Jo

Dear Jo,

We emptied out probiotic capsules.

Although we were mostly SCD we chose to use a wider spectrum of good bacteria so

we used Custom cp1 probios. We heated then cooled the milk - emptied out a

couple of capsules and mixed them in.

Then we put in the yog maker for at least 24hrs. (we were so wary of lactose and

casein at first that we used to do it for 36hrs and it was ok).

We also used culturelle and other probios.

Perhaps someone will suggest an SCD-legal strain of probios.

Best wishes,

Sandy

Hi Tahira,

Probiotic capsules contain live bacteria so these work well for yoghurt

starters.

Elaine Gotchall used to recommend using a bit of shop yoghurts but we could

never find anything we would want to use (we have to avoid all cow dairy which

limits the options).

My mum often used a spoon of her previous yoghurt to make a new batch and her

yoghurt used to be especially nice (though I should mention that Elaine wasn't

too keen on this).

We just used 2 capsules of custom cp1 and it was always good.

Not sure if a thermos would work. It could be hard to clean out. The yoghurt

just needs to be kept warm for at least 24hrs so there are maybe a few things

that would work.

(There's also room temp yoghurts like villi and piima which don't need a yoghurt

maker).

Best wishes,

Sandy
