weaning off Medrol - I'm a total B$^&@

hello all -

I've been a complete BITCH today! Can I say that on here?

Anyway - totally on edge! Snappy.

I went to see the RD today and told him. My sed rate as

of Friday was 18 - which he says is good. Everything

looked normal, but my wbc is over 22,000. I'm usually

at 17,000. Is it normal to be so high right now? I am

only 4 weeks out of the surgery and am still in pain.

Taking Medrol, Lortab and Ativan. could they be

increasing it that much? How will I know if it's high

due to inflammation or just high due to the drugs?

I'm on 32 mg of Medrol in the am and was on 16 mg and

then 8 mg at night and the last 2 nights I've weaned off

the 8 mg.

My RD wants me to start with cutting 8 mg off the am for 1

or 2 weeks and then go to just 16 mg and see how I do.

I am having the moon face, ulcers in the mouth, gained about

6 lbs and pounding heart. I'm so irritated by every little thing -

I just want to punch something or someone. (everyone

better stay out of my way - ha ha).

I'm not normally like this at all - very laid back - easy going -

go with the flow - friendly, etc...

now - my husband says I have a " license to bitch " - ha ha!

he's really taking this all in stride and is such an angel

with me right now.

could all these issues above be from the medrol?

The RD wants to see how I do weaning off - which I'm happy

to do, but then evaluate what we need to do depending

on how I'm doing. I have an echo scheduled Sept 2 and then

see the cardiologist Sept 9.

As for organs doing well or not well - how do we know? Just

by tests or is there some physical manifestation I should be

aware of? My RD did mention some slightly high levels with

the liver, but not unusual for the meds.

I'm confused. I'm scared. I feel like my body is throbbing.

Any insights would be sooooooo appreciated!

Much love to you all,

Hi ,

Could be meds or ? I dunno, maybe your just having a build up bad day. Do

you feel like the Ativan is helping much? Maybe you need a bit stronger dose

of that with decreasing the Medrol like you are. I cannot say but I do know

it is really hard to figure it out on our own because we aren't the doctors

and we didn't go to school and get the hundreds of thousand dollars in

degrees. A little sarcastic on my part but because I'm having one of those

weeks as well. I'm not sure if I'm trying to flare this summer or it's just

a build up after a really bad year and the latest news that my daughter and

family are moving farther away from us than now which is a five hour drive.

I just finished a crying stint and haven't been feeling right myself for a

while now and just cannot figure it out either.

The best of luck dear. We can ride it out together. I'm sure your not a

Bitch, just having a bad spell and it will get better, we just don't know

exactly when ;0( I'm here if you are though,

Love in light,

Marty -

Thanks for the fun laugh! I needed that giggle! You are too funny!

Yesterday was actually my 18th anniversary of the day I met my

husband. It was a special day when we met and I knew the day

we met that I would marry him - I just felt as if I'd known him

my whole life. IT was meant to be and we've been through a lot

together - we were both in the car accident when I broke my

back - so he has been supporting me and my health now for

18 years. The accident actually brought us closer and we've

been together - actually inseparable ever since. Took us 6 years

before we actually got married - we finished college and

traveled a bit. And - we've only recently started our family -

I have a 3 year old son, , who is a blessing. I do want

to have more children - at least one more, but I guess we'll have

to see what happens...

anyway - thanks to you and everyone on the site for being

here - it helps to have such a loving group of people who

truly understand the ups and downs of this disease.

right now - it's almost 4 am and I'm up in pain - joint pain -

which I guess is from the tropical storm that's hitting. Ellen

had mentioned that my body would feel it, but I'm not exactly

sure why that is the case. Just took 2 more pain pills - hoping

that helps.

thanks again for laugh!

hugs to you!

Hi ,

Sorry you're having a bad time as well. hang in there!

what do you mean a " build up " bad day?

I definitely think the Medrol is making me crazy -

not sure if it's from just being on it or from weaning.

Can we ever be sure?

The Ativan does seem to help me calm down a bit, hadn't

thought about more I think it's just 1 mg. How much do

others take?

The Lortab does seem to help me calm a bit too.

Definitely not liking the Medrol though - can't wait to be

off and yet scared too as I don't want my rash to come

back which hasn't been back since the surgery. This

would be the first time I've been rash free in years and

I'm kind of liking it!

I guess time will tell as I wean what my body will do.

Trying to find my own peace with this all - and figuring

out ways to stay stress-free and calm. Definitely don't

want the fluid to come back either.

Sorry about your daughter moving - I'm also a daughter

that has moved many, many times and driven my family

crazy. We moved from land to California in 1994

after college - lived there a year - then moved to Florida

and lived there a year then moved back to land - got

married and lived there 4 years. then moved back to

California and lived there 6 years and now we're back

in Florida again! So - one thing is for sure - you just

never know when she'll move again! You can only

hope!

thanks for your support!

love and hugs,

michelle

Hi , I'm sorry that you are having a bad time. I can relate,

I'm also feeling a lot like hitting someone or something-I'm very

angry and a right bitch of late also! (Send your ex my way, Marty!)

Maybe coming off the prendisone? I don't know. But as a wise person

advised me, just take one day at a time, that is all we can do, and

hope the next one will be better than the last! As for the organ

thing, I'm not sure. I know my fortnightly blood tests always check

my liver function as it was affected so badly when I first fell ill.

But as to the rest, I'm not sure....sorry. Hope you have a better

day, chin up. Hugs, Libby :-)

I can't take prednisone or medrol for a lot of the reasons you

listed. On top of that it makes me sweat so bad, I could feel it

pouring out of every hair on my head. Plus the extreme anger. Let

your doctor know of all these effects you are having in case he wants

to change your plan up.

Thanks! I also am sweating a lot - can't even do my

hair without it ending up wet before I finish - which

adds to my frustration and anger!!! Agggh!

I will let him know. Glad in the meantime to

be weaning off it.

thanks!

Hi ,

What I meant by a build up bad day was that some days are bad because after

a while things have built up over a period of time and then it seems to

settle in affecting either my arthritis physically or my mental state

emotionally. As for the Ativan, when I take that I have 1 mg as well but my

doctor prescribes me something else for times when that isn't strong enough

and the stressors in my life are out of my control and something stronger is

needed. I do not know if this is something that would apply to you, I was

just curious because you said it was one of your medications and sometimes

if our doctors know how we are feeling psychologically as well as physically

they can better help us. I believe a good doctor will treat the whole

patient as mine always have.

I don't know if we ever completely know which is causing which symptoms.

I've been living with this a long time and I'm never completely sure. That

is why this group is so special to me as well. Facing life alone was always

uncertain to some extent and I have always been so fortunate in having the

best of doctors I feel but since this group, my life is much fuller and I

had people to share with. That is something that no one can pay for with a

medical degree.

I hope this reply helps clarify some of my post and thank you for your

support for me, it helps so much. My daughter's husband works for Marriott

corp. They have moved the same as you. This will be their 5th move in 14

years if they do take the move but I try and be positive and tell myself at

least it's not across the country like they were contemplating the first of

the year ;0)

Wishes for much happier days,
