Yet another blanket of shame has covered our state. Ramshaw's stunning report on what happens when a state school employee is confirmed committing Class 1 abuse was published today in the Texas Tribune. (the article was sent to the list this am) Nothing happens. Nothing. Class 1 abuse is the most heinous and violent form of abuse. Read the descriptions of the outragous violence perpetrated against our most vulnerable Texans. This is your tax money at work. I am sickened and outraged. Only 2 of these animals out of 75 perpetrators are actually doing any time. This is beyond comprehension. And you know what, I don't care about the excuses. The finger pointing and "not my job" mentality reeks of a broken system that can not be repaired. With this article today, every sadist that works at a state institution knows that the odds are very good that if they decide to beat up or kill someone in their charge that they will get away with it... Nothing will happen to them. They are given permission to kill, rape and maim. This permission is provided by layers of bureaucrats who are complicit with these crimes. Lack of intervention, action and accountability leaves blood on the hands of those charged with managing and operating these facilities. It looks like God will have to judge them as Texas doesn't give a damn. And today, I am equally complicit unless I act to the best of my ability to demand justice, to let those inside these warehouses know that someone is thinking of them and trying to do something. If we sit by and let this go then we are complicit. What will you do? You are not helpless in this. Please stand ready to act in the upcoming days. I welcome your ideas as we craft plans to respond. If our prosecutors and state leaders can't/won't do anything, then we must seek other avenues to respond.
