Guest guest
Oh, thank you, that was just beautiful. The Power of a Badge...... <image.jpg> DEA officer stops at a ranch in Texas, and talks with an old rancher. He tells the rancher, "I need to inspect your ranch for illegally grown drugs." The rancher says, "Okay, but don't go in that field over there," as he points out the location. The DEA officer verbally explodes saying, "Mister, I have the authority of the Federal Government with me." Reaching into his rear pants pocket, he removes his badge and proudly displays it to the rancher. "See this badge? This badge means I am allowed to go wherever I wish.... On any land. No questions asked or answers given. Have I made myself clear? Do you understand? " The rancher nods politely, apologizes, and goes about his chores. A short time later, the old rancher hears loud screams and sees the DEA officer running for his life chased by the rancher's big Santa Gertrudis bull...... <image.jpg>With every step the bull is gaining ground on the officer, and it seems likely that he'll get gored before he reaches safety. The officer is clearly terrified. The rancher throws down his tools, runs to the fence and yells at the top of his lungs..... "Your badge. Show him your BADGE, you friggen smart ass! Guest guest
Funny story. I wonder, in reality, the DEA doesn't have any right to inspect the land without a search warrant, right? Or have we really lost that protection? > > > > > > > > The Power of a Badge...... > > > > > > > > DEA > officer stops at a ranch in Texas, and talks with an old rancher. Guest guest
Unfortunately, I think now days they would just shoot the bull and haul you off to jail for threatening an officer. And you would be locked up. Matt Re: FW: The Power of the Badge....................... Funny story. Guest guest
I think you're right Matt. , it all depends on what you're into. If you are certified organic then you have given them permission to come inspect your place whenever they feel the need. If you are licensed to sell eggs they can come inspect whenever they want. If you are licensed to sell plants they can come inspect whenever they want. If you've registered with NAIS they can come inspect the animals whenever they want. Getting the idea? Guest guest
I'm not certain. The USDA has all sorts of programs for farmers, compensation for bad hay year, EQUIP (environmental) programs. If you are enrolled in one of them you may have given permission for them to enter at will.
