Guest guest
I'm asking this around a few places because I'm not sure what to make of it. Some of you know it took us a VERY long time to get Rose a diagnosis because she " compensates " very well for her autism - and even now her official dx remains PDD-NOS because she has issues that mean she cannot qualify as aspergers even though otherwise it fits her - ie she has aspergers *and* a history of speech issues and still has self care issues. Anyway. At school, she has FINALLY qualified for special ed (she should have had it from the beginning, don't get me started on that one)but she does not get resource for math. She is reading, writing, and doing math at a kinder level in 2nd grade (despite a very high IQ) and so she gets 120 minutes of resource room time for academics per week, but none of it is for math. They tell me they don't " do " math resource and we need to do reading and writing first and that she already spends " too much time out of her classroom " . Same reason they use to not give her speech therapy/social skills class during school hours. She does thankfully get OT (though only once a week - she reeeeally needs more OT) I feel like I'm whining. I know we have rights, I've read slaw and am gettng with an advocate. My question is: have any of you been told similar things and how do you decide what is... politics and what is in the actual best interest of your kid?
