Guest guest
Oh how I hate to disagree with the vet. I am really scared of those high protein pellets. Okay but do not just give her two pounds right now all of a sudden.. s I would really worry that she would get the runs, dehydrate, , bloat, get enterotoxemia because it is a sucker’s bet that she has not been vaccinated. You do not give someone who has been starving a T-Bone steak and ice cream.. Ease her back. Go slow. You know with your sheep you cannot change the diet abruptly without getting into problems…and they are healthy. Panacur is another brand name for Fenbenzadol. Signs of CL would be abscesses or scars of abscesses and CAE would be swollen knees. But animals can be infected and be asymptomatic. Or at least Asymptomatic for quite a while. Is she interested in eating? Does she drink, pee and poop ? Is her poop pellets like your sheep. My experience is that if a goat is eating with interest, drinking, peeing and pooping normally AND you do not kill them with kindness by overloading their system .. they do not die. Yes the white eyelids say anemia. You cannot build blood overnight either. Use the wormer first.. Wait a little and then hit her with the coccidia stuff . Go easy.. do not overload her system. And Worming every ten days for a few times is really good. Because you kill off mature worms but not the eggs. Then the eggs hats but in 10 days the worms are not old enough to lay new eggs so you worm and kill them. A couple of goes like that and you have the parasite population down to something manageable for her. Is the coccidian stuff Albon (Sulfadimethoxine)? If so give some b vitamins Thiamine at the same time. There is a interaction their and a healthy strong goat could take it.. but your girl is a bit fragile. Where are you located? Is the area selenium deficient? If so did he give her some selenium? I particularly want to know about her attitude toward food, and her poop. The vet said he thought her to be 4 years old. Her bag is not tight at all, BUT the vet said her babies are alive and large!!! Her blood tests looked good, as far as any infectious diseases, nothing showed up. She is loaded with worms and a few coccidia. He thinks she is just starved to death. Her gums and inner eye are just white! She is very weak, does not want to stand. Her backbone you can feel clear to her ribs. (Just makes me sick to see one like that!) He is holding the blood for a few days to see if she even lives then will send in for CAE & CL, but he said he found nothing to indicate she had it (???) He gave her several shots, minerals, etc. to get her energy up, I am sure there were no minerals (or salt) prior to her coming here, she is getting them now. I went ahead and bought a better quality hay for her, Lespedeza, ours is just fescue and prairie with some clover. He said to give her two pounds of feed a dayof the high protein pellets with NO grains, and a handful of the chopped alfalfa, and free choice hay, I do have a hay basket for her. I will give her the feed in small amounts several times a day. I don't want to over load her with a parasite ridden gut. He gave me Panacuer to worm her 5 days in a row and the same with some coccidia med. She has no fever. Do you know if putting a little molasses in her water would be ok?
