Guest guest
, very interesting introduction. Where in TN are you? We are in Fayetteville. Cleve Intro Hello. My name is Olive. My wife and I, Arlia, both Florida natives, moved to a moderatly sized farm in Tennessee 2 years ago, joyfully leaving the rat race to those more interested in its lifestyle. We moved for a million reasons, but toward the top of the list was good food, free from what Salatin calls the 'Industrial Model.' We'll be using this Group as a vehicle to better understand consumer sentiment, producer thoughts, in general, what's being said and done. We've done much reading on the subject but as any sincere learner knows there's always more to learn. We thought, even before we moved up here, although we did not combine much market study with our thinking, that we could sell range-free eggs in our neighborhood. We were sadly mistaken. There WAS an interest, but it turned out to basically match our expense in protein. Well... it's a good thing we only raised 100 instead of the 1000 I had planned to raise! Ditto for rabbits (not a market interest in paying their worth, either)... they're too hard to kill and even if they taste wonderful, which they do, I kept finding myself re-living the final moments over and over as they gave their lives for ours. On a better and more relevant note, Arlia and I have been wanting clean raw milk for some time now and we're very keen on sharing good news with the neighbors. We will be starting a cow-share dairy in the spring of 2010 with a small Jersey herd. We are outlining what goals are necessary to provide the ideal environment for clean, easily accessible raw milk for people because that's what the body craves and that's the way it's been throughout the history of mankind. Isn't it remarkable how industry imagines better things for us - and then uses that thinking to line its pockets at the very expense of those whom it serves? We're looking forward to meeting you! Guest guest
This is a very interesting group but it is not about cheesemaking very much. There is a yahoo group called cheesemaking. I have a group called GoatCheesePlus or these pages can be very helpful http://biology.clc.uc.edu/Fankhauser/Cheese/Cheese.html http://fiascofarm.com/dairy/index.htm Naomi " Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are even incapable of forming such opinions. " ..... Recently my family moved to Northern Africa where there isn't any quality cheese, so now I'm motivated. I hope to learn a lot here, I'm happy to have found such a group.
