Guest guest
Thanks to everyone who sent me great emails and links to help me understand the possibilities for our dairy. Me and my DH had a great talk and I know now why the organic is not an option at this point. VERY BAD BUSINESS DESISION! Anyhow, I have been milking goats only for our own family and we have decided to possibly milk MORE goats, so we can gather up and recoop from all this! We are farmers that refuse to give up! So I have few questions: 1. Are there any dairy goat farmers in this group? 2. Are there any creameries in Wisconsin that are making new contracts? 3. What are the steps to selling from my farm? Pasterizing, Bottling, Regulations and such? Thanks again to everyone for their wonderful help! I don't know what I would do without this group! Guest guest
I am in Central Florida. I have customers that buy my goat milk on the farm for their pets. It's amazing how many people have pets with allergies around here.;-} Carol Eustis, FL > So I have few questions: > 1. Guest guest
LOL! That is wonderful! Do they bring the bottle or do you bottle it yourself? Did you advertise? OR word just got around? I know a few people who have " pets with those allergies " . LOL! But don't know how many goats I would need to properly supply them and my own family needs. I called the dairy around us and they told me that they are not accepting new contracts, so now I have to get another avenue. Do you know why we can sell farm eggs but not milk? really what is the difference? Thanks again for everyone's help. Guest guest
You know, that's a very good question. Can't eggs be truly dangerous compared to raw milk if not handled and cooked properly? Deb Ferrell Re: Selling milk from my farm LOL! Guest guest
Pamela- I have been milking goats for many years, like you for my own children and use in my kitchen. This past year I decided to start a milk share program, legal way to sell milk here in Colorado for people use. I am presently only milking 3 goats (1 1/2 to 2 gals. per day) and my share program went from 2 shareholders to 10 in 3 mos. and I have a waiting list for next April when we freshen again. A great resource is the Raw Milk Association of Colorado-website www.rawmilkcolorado.org - As a member I do follow their guidelines and, I also do monthly milk testing for E.coli, salmonelia, staph/strep, coliforms, and a standard plate count. Also on farm weekly mastitis test, and the goats have been tested forCAE, TB, and brucellosis. BEST OF LUCK TO YOU with your new venture sharron--- On Sat, 11/8/08, lawstuenslionheads wrote: Subject: Selling milk from my farmTo: RawDairy Date: Saturday, November 8, 2008, 6:02 AM Thanks to everyone who sent me great emails and links to help me understand the possibilities for our dairy. Guest guest
In NYS you can not sell for pet use unless you test monthly yourself, put blue die in it. Just easier to sell for human use here. NYs does the testing. Shares also are not allowed., with out a permit. Guest guest
The difference between eggs and milk is simple. The 4H kids use egg sales to keep things going. Milk is not something 4H kids sold. Eggs will, according to my USDA " friend " , be next on the hit list but they are having a hard time going after eggs because of the 4H involvement. As for our eggs, I test them almost everyday. A raw egg in raw goat milk yogurt with some raw fruit. <G> Still kicking after all these years! Belinda > > LOL!
