Speaking to Jaxi's point re. humane harvesting of any of the animal

species (including sharks): I have read in one of the forums not too

long ago, I believe it was from someone acquainted with emu farms and

their harvesting practice that they have sworn off the emu oil for the

way it was harvested from the birds which they stated caused the birds

great pain. I believe they said it was a denied fact of the emu

industry. I do not remember the details nor exactly who posted but I

do remember resolving never to purchase emu oil again myself. I recall

wondering at the time if it was similar to the old-fashioned way goose

down was harvested where at a certain time of the year when the feathers

were molting easily that the geese would have their webbed feet nailed

to a board to keep them from flying away and then the down was harvested

and the birds set free again. I remember being told they felt no pain

in the webbing ... but the question I have is the same as that for a lot

of lab animals who obviously DO suffer pain while lab technicians and

policy-makers " rationalize " that for this reason or that that the

hapless animals feel no pain: How the h... would THEY " know " and

wouldn't the subjective proof of the forever-after-fear-effect on the

animals be sufficient to show that at the LEAST they " suffered " from the

fear experienced in the ordeals subjected to.

In that respect, if anyone watches Cesar Milan's shows ..a very graphic

one showing the effect of the fear factor for the experimental dogs was

one of a dog rescued from a science lab that had the worst obvious fear

of humans that it was extremely hard even for Cesar to regain the dog's

trust and to help restore it to some degree of confidence in venturing

anywhere near people. Very sad to realize how many animals etc. suffer

the same fates without recognition of the genuine needlessness of most

of such so-called " research " , if not ALL. When really pressed, most

compassionate researchers will acknowledge that the research on

effectiveness could otherwise be " proven " BUT FOR the requirements of

the FDA. It is time for our people to stand up for the " voiceless " of

every species of sentient creatures.

Off my soapbox now ...Joyce M. Simmerman
