Guest guest
Hi Shauna, Keira is just finishing her 1st cast and she was at 76* and significantly rotated before the cast and they got her down to 43* in cast and to 34* in a traction xray. This shows that her spine is still somewhat flexible. However, Keira is 27 months and the doctor showed us how her vertebrate were damaged by growing in a curved position. He said that this was a good possibility that she would need surgery in the future to correct this, but he said that the casting will buy us several years of time and we can hope that her spine will improve. Only time will tell. Liz .. Subject: xraysTo: infantile_scoliosis Date: Monday, August 4, 2008, 6:02 AM Awhile ago, the topic of medical records and xrays were being talked about. I have been working on getting Hadley's stuff together for future reference. Just had one question though:-Do i need all the xray? Or will the back views be ok? Do i need the side views as well? And would i need all the in cast xrays? or just the correction xrays and out of cast xrays? On another note I was curious about something else. Before Hadley was casted, we were told as many of you know already that any curve above 50 typically does not get corrected by a cast and will eventually need surgery. I was wondering if that was the before cast correction degree or if it could pertain to any degree that the cast corrected. Hadley started with a 74 and with the first cast, was corrected to a 47. So, does that mean she is now in the below 50 range and chances of her getting corrected are higher now. Or do they take it from the original degree. Thanks :)Shauna
Guest guest
Hi Liz THanks for the response. What exactly is a traction xray? Did she get her cast off yet? As far as I know, the dr said nothing about any damage and Hadley's only 15 months now and in her 2nd cast. In the cast (1st) they got her down to 17 and a 12 in her 2nd cast. After her first cast was off for a wk, her back showed it was 47 degrees.... That was her new degree. So, do you know if that would mean she's in the percent of kids who would get corrected from the cast? Or do they consider it from her beginning degree? Im sorry your daughter got vertabrae damage. Is that from finding the scoliosis so late? So, if she is still in her 1st cast, you do not know what her correction is yet, right? I pray and hope your daughter does not need surgery. Again thank you for your response.
