Hi

Rita,

I have a few questions:

Does your daughter have a waterproof cast

(fiberglass/gortex) or a plaster cast? It’s my understanding that

the cast (either type) should be rigid through the duration of the cast, so it’s

doing its job by continual external force. If the cast is breaking down,

the integrity of the cast has been affected and it may not be applying pressure

where it should be……It’s the continual external force and

harnessing the childs growth in this external force (the cast) that is guiding

the young spine to grow straight…Do you mind if I ask you where you go

for treatment?

Have you read the article and seen “A

New Direction” DVD? If not, may I recommend that you take a look at

both. I have been out of the loop for a bit, so forgive me if these

questions have already been asked.

did it for us. She knew we were flying to Chicago for casting (we

live in Florida). Her office had a cast saw. The ped removed it for

us once and the nurses did it the second time. She never called

Chicago to confirm, etc. We just told her that we had already spoken

with Chicago and they were aware we were having it cut off

locally. What's funny is that the ped's office didn't have any

experience with cutting off risser casts, but I thought they did it

much better than the person that did it in Chicago. We didn't have

it taken off in Chicago until the last cast and it didn't go

nearly as smoothly as it did the previous times at the ped's office.

Any doctor's office that has a cast saw should be capable of removing

it for you. It's just a matter of finding someone locally who will

be willing to work with you even though you are being treated by a

doctor elsewhere. I

recasted September 4th. Then casted again around Oct. 21st. She is

only in her 2nd cast at the time. For the first cast removal, we went

back to our Shriners Hospital in Chicago to have the cast removed.

But that is a 2 1/2 hr drive for us. I know a lot of people get their

child's cast off locally and was wondering where that could be done.

I just called the pediatrician and unfortanetely our pediatric nurses

and doctors are not that helpful. The nurse said she knows the ER

has taken casts off. Obviously other people have to know how because

it has to be done when somebody breaks and arm or something. She

really was of no help at all. Actually, just frustrated me more. So,

I ws just wondering where you all have your child's casts removed.
