During the three weeks I recently took spiro, I noticed this. Ordinarily I LOVE

the heat, but while on spiro, I found it unbearable. So, I'm not sure if it's a

PA thing, or a spiro side effect.

Current theory is that the RAAS System evolved to protect against fatal sodium depletion from low intake, sweating (heat), diarrhea, vomiting and pregnancy. Aldo is kicked up by all of these as the lowered volume in CV system lower pressure to the kidneys. Ks release renin which chops off a 10 aminoacid peptide AI. ACE cleaves off a dipeptide from AI WHICH leaves AII. AII is one of the most powerful vasoconstrictors known and brings BP up for the short term. AII also reacts with a receptor (ALDO RECEPTORThe adrenal to increase aldost synthesis and release this occurs over hours to days. In the renal tubule cell Aldo stimulates protein production (DNA RNA and all that jazz). The protein is assembled at the luminal bored tInto ENAC channels that open up so sodium can be saved from the urine. Does same in sweat glands and gut and saliva glands. The urine Na will go to zero if needed. As Na is retained volume and BP come back up and so it goes. If one has to drink very salty water then another system in the heart puts out ANP which blocks renin and Aldo and gets rid if the salt before it kills you. And this never ending feed back loop continues to keep is alive in our world of excess salt. Tiped sad Send form miiPhone ;-)May your pressure be low!CE Grim MDSpecializing in DifficultHypertension

Hello folks,

As a person with PA I am heat intolerant. During hot days I notice my feet are swelled and my BP is high which I suspect that due to heat intolerance on hot days I retain sodium which causes feet swelling and high BP.

Has anyone noticed such a problem?

Does heat causes me to retain sodium?

I dont have the swelling, and I never saw a connection with my BP, but i cant stand the heat. My wife has the opposite problem and so we are always arguing about the house temp. I can tolerate 73, but she wants 75. 74 infact is too hot for me, but I surrender. I cant beleive one degree makes such a huge difference, but it does.

I don't remember ever sweating.....that is until I started on Spiro three weeks ago.  I just can't handle being outside in the heat now.   Today it is only 75 degrees (or 21)....one in C and the other in F and I am really sweating.  My husband is laughing at me because he is a profuse sweater and could never figure out why I was always so dry.

So, I have to say that the heat intolerance is due to the Spiro and not the PA, which I believe I have had for many, many years.
