Guest guest
But, not always does the weight loss slow down!! Everyone is different Darcy who lost her weight quite rapidly and at a very steady pace.. > " I have now started eating fresh salads and vegetables, fresh meat > and fish, limiting my dairy intake and cutting out processed foods > and starchy foods. I have been doing this for a week now and have lost > around 6lbs already leaving me with 30 to go. > > Cairo " > > I think what is important is that you find what works for you, and find something you can stick to. Bottom line :-) Usually the weight loss the first week is mainly due to water loss (from water retention). After the first week, the weight loss usually slows down. > > Janick > > > > >

Guest guest
Jan A Hello and welcome to the greatest group you can join. Sorry you had to find us but I think you will be glad you did under the circumstances. No question to small or to big. We discuss anything and everything to do with LBD. If you have a question no one seems to have the answer to they can tell you where to go to get it. If any of us can be of help, just ask. We are here to assist in anyway we can. You can feel free to vent, scream, cry, and laugh with this group. Yes, there are times when we find something funny to tell about this disease. Maybe something we have done that is silly and we share. Good Luck and Hugs to you and your loved one, Jacqui
Guest guest
Jan A, Welcome to the caregiver support group. ( THere is also a spouse group.) Your email did come through and as we say to most who come, welcome and I am sorry you have to be here. I am not sure what kind of info you are looking for about your husband. There are lots of caregivers. My Mom died 2 years ago and she was with me for 3 and lived in a nh for a year. Let us know your questions and I am sure someone can relate. You also have the option of going into Yahoo and reading messages that go on and on that we have been typing for years. Hope to hear from you again. I'm relatively new here myself, but I can tell you that the folks here are unfailingly kind and helpful. They have answered all my questions, offered helpful suggestions and have been wonderfully supportive. You couldn't find a better group with which to share this particular sorrow. In my own case, it's my mother who has LBD. I don't know how long she's had it, but I do know that her memory loss dates back as far as 11 years ago, when I first began having to take care of her after a back injury. My father's short-term memory is just shot, but so far their new doctor doesn't think he has any sort of dementia. She puts it down to depression. They'll be 80 and 90 respectively, next month, so I guess we have to expect some problems, right? Good luck dargie

Mom, is legally blind as well as having LBD, and while we insist she feed herself as long as she can, we often put the food on her spoon for her. She was asking over and over if we would put some food on her spoon. My dad, who was a salesman all his life, simply couldn't find the right word to tell my mother that there already was, said: " The merchandise is on your spoon! Guest guest
Hi , It's Ellen. I answered your post on the discussion board (the other site). Just wanted to welcome you again to the family and I'm sorry you have to be here. In all honesty, you've found a fabulous group here. Very supportive and informative as well as fun. Just so you know, I was diagnosed 13 years ago - won't go into the details - however, we had to move from New York to Florida in order for me to feel better. I will tell you that summer is killer, especially down here with the rain every day and the hurricanes. Anyway, I'm going to keep this short (unusual for me) and say once again, welcome, grab a seat and relax and jump right in just don't forget your guidelines. Take care and be well. Guest guest
Another thing to think about is if you can rent or if they have a recliner in the room, as that is what most people sleep in for quite some time after surgery. I was lucky to go to my brothers and they brought my recliner from my house. I slept in it for a long time. So I would add that to my checklist also. I just had my four year anniversary, so I know what it is like to go through the holidays with a new lease on life. You will do great. Pearl In a message dated 12/13/2008 3:13:43 P.M. Guest guest
Hello and welcome!  I am having my surgery in January also - January 6th. I am coming from out of town also. I am coming from about 400 miles away. When I went to Delano for my consultation appointment I stayed at the Holiday Inn and the rates (even with the Dr. K discount) are a little steep if you are staying for at 10-14 days. I did a lot of checking around and I have made my reservations at Best Western. The rate is about $72.00 a night, they have a continental breakfast, the hallways are inside, they have internet access and they have an indoor heated pool and spa (for your support person)..  But, as Jo stated - Bakersfield is only 30 mins away and probably has a lot more to offer.  Good luck to you. Guest guest
, Â Just one more point - and maybe Jo knows the anser to this one - but I am not sure if there are hotels in Bakersfield that offer the reduced rates based on you being a patient of Dr. K's. Guest guest
There are no hotels that offer a Keshishian Discount in Bakersfield that I know about. Thanks Terrie for supplying some current info about Delano motels. See...you are already being a VALUED member of this list with something to offer. We need everyone here...as we are all at different points in our journey and we learn from each other. Even when someone simply asks a question...other learn right along with them. So thanks for speaking up and being helpful with the Delano motel question. Isn't is fun getting to know a January switchsister! Guest guest
Hello, Good point January is a really good time to have the surgery. Ill be making my Christmas dinner a special one this year. Thanks for all your info. I will definitly take all these things into consideration while picking the motel I will be staying at. I think Ill go ahead and just stay in Deleno because my mom knows the area better and will already know her way around. My mom and Uncle both had the surgery in Delano so she knows what to expect. But the hotels Ive tried just arent going to work. Me and my brother will both be having the surgery together the same day. So finding a hotel/motel that can be flexable with both of us should be a challange but were up for it. We will both be having the surgery on Jan 20th. My mom wants us to share a room just so it will be easier on her to care for us both but we might have to have seperate. Anyways thanks for replying. I just love the support. Guest guest
What a great way to start the new year! How incredible that you and your brother will both be there together. You will both be in my prayers. One word of caution... Stay away from people with colds or the flu. My surgery was postponed for 3 weeks because I caught a cold. Major disappointment, but you certainly don't want to be coughing after this surgery!! Best of luck on your new adventure. Guest guest
Welcome to the group, . I had my DS with Dr. K in January of 2008. I've lost about 106 pounds and feel absolutely terrific! We stayed at the Best Western Liberty Inn in Delano. We had a handicap room on the first floor. It had inside hallways for walking in inclement weather. The room had plenty of space for a recliner (which we rented - Dr. K's office can get you the name and phone number of the rental company). The handicap bathroom was a blessing, since my hubby ended up in the shower with me to help me with washing myself and my hair. We found the Best Western to be reasonable and their staff was super helpful. There is a Denny's and Perko's Cafe right there, too, which was very handy; we walked to both of them pretty regularly and they let me order things like " one egg, scrambled, with nothing else at all! " They're used to dealing with Dr. K's patients, I think! Good luck with your procedure next month! You won't believe what a wild and wonderful experience you're about to have! Post all your questions here - someone will be able to answer anything, and I do mean ANYTHING! Bellingham, WA DS 01-15-08 > > Hello, > > My name is .
