Guest guest
Thanks for the great feedback Amelia. First it's important to stop/block your child from hurting himself. With head butting, that was pretty easy to block or redirect, but tongue biting. . . . ..that's a little tougher. Are you working with a behavior analyst who could make sure that he's doing it when he's bored or doing it because he's stressed. At any rate, you probably want to work with or ask an OT for some chewy alternatives that he can bite into instead of his tongue. It could be chewy candy, hard gum, OT tubing, or a chew toy or something, anything to keep him from biting his tongue. A lot of kids with autism need pressure on their jaw joints--at least that's what an OT who used to work with my son told me. Hope this helps, Thanks for your presentation Hi , Thank you so much for the presentation on Oct 6. You did a lot of great things for the family fighting with autism. You mentioned that your son sometime ban his head on the floor. How did you deal with it? My son sometime would chew his tongue to bleed when he feels boring. I tried to pay no attention to it, but it's not work. Seems like when he can taste the blood, then he calms down. Hopefully, your suggestion will work on him. Thanks in advance! Amelia. --------------------------------- Be a better Globetrotter. Get better travel answers from someone who knows. Yahoo! Answers - Check it out.
