My name is Guyna (ballet suite, my parents were music majors). My husband, Mel

and I have a small organic ranch in NE Texas. Almost 14 years ago we decided to

take a huge pay cut and leave the rat race. It is tons of work but we have never

been sorry. We aren't rich but we are happy. :) Our sons are grown and married.

We raise miniature dairy and beef cattle, poultry, pygmy goats and we train

Anatolian Shepherd Dogs. We also have two Arabians and a Barb, doves, cats and

two Rotties, one of which is 13yrs old.

We do all our own butchering of our beef, poultry and goat. We have a garden

that we are currently working on expanding and a small new orchard with fruit

trees, grapes and berries. The drought this year has been really rough but we

are now getting some rain and even have some winter grass in the pastures. Yea!

We are developing a new dual purpose (milk and meat) breed of miniature cattle

that Mel named 's Cattle. One of their traits is spots inside of

spots.

We sell a few of our miniature Jersey and miniature Holstein heifers and bulls

every year mostly to people like us that are trying to be a self sufficient as

possible and enjoy producing their own food.

Mel grew up on a small farm and milking isn't one of his favorite jobs but he

does it with a promise from me that we aren't going to run a dairy so we don't

sell our milk although it is legal in Texas. I make butter, ice cream, yogurt,

soft and hard cheeses and our dogs have beautiful coats from drinking the extra

milk. One of our cats will only drink milk if it is ice cold.

I've only been making hard cheese for the past year and I'm still learning all

the ins and outs.

Best wishes to everyone,

Guyna
