Depending on the milk volume and your need at the house, 8-10 hours should be enough. I have had good luck turning the cow out at 7 AM and milking what I needed at 5-6 PM and then leaving the cow and calf in the pen/stable over night. BillRoseboro,NC To: RawDairy Sent: Sunday,

Hi-I am a new jersey owner with a 6 week old bull/steer calf. I need other experiences on when and how long to separate the cow/calf so that I and the calf can get milk. I greatly appreciate it. We are getting used to each others schedule since I have only had them a week.

thank you

Greetings,

I go out in the evening and separate my cow and calf. To start with

last summer, it was at dusk. As my calf has gotten older, I separate

them now at 4PM and milk about 9AM. I plan on weaning my calf soon and

putting him in the freezer.

Bright Blessings,

Garth & Kim
