May not be useful for cows, but I would suggest that it's possible in humans to stop the diarrhea in gastric-enteritis by warming the lower-belly to favor the thermophilic microbes in the healthy gut.  They then have the resources to work faster and process the flowing intestinal contents to compost quality solids in my theory...  worked last time I tried it but no clue on what you'd have to do...  I had a small heating pad on low (which heated the surface of my gut to about 125*F based on the kitchen thermometer)..  it felt so good (but not up higher on the belly)...  No clue what resources you'd have in the milking parlor or even whether some favored belly-warming rigged device anyone could put together.  Just was so surprised to see how well it worked.  ttyl, best wishes for your momma-cow et al..  I kinda owe the organic dairy calves a debt b/c the vets' website with the cod-liver oil cure for spring pink eye was so effective in my own case...  MJ Raichyk

HI thank you for all your suggestions in separating the cow/calf. I am putting him up today for the first time and will see how that goes.

I have one more concern. The cow has loose stool. I feed her alfalfa/orchard grass when I milk her and the rest of the time she gets grass hay. No grain for the last 5 days only the hay. I have given her probios twice and put electrolytes in her water. She seems to act normal. She is in a pasture where there is very little grass because of the winter in Kentucky. It has been very wet here the last week and wonder if there is anything more I should be doing. Previous owners have wormed her and given her vaccinations. Only this sticken loose stool. thank you
