Guest guest
I have been taking Spironolactone for 3.5 years. Prior to being diagnosed with hyper-aldosterone, my BP was about 160/90 and my potassium level was low despite taking large doses of anti-hypertensives and potassium pills. Spironolactone at 100 mg had a dramatic effect and my BP is currently about 130/80 and potassium is normal, without taking any potassium pills. I am a 71 year old male. To counteract breast tenderness and gynecomastia, my internist has me taking tamoxifen (10 mg per day), and this works fairly well. But I would rather not take Tamoxifen, and would like to try an even higher level of a mineralocorticoid receptor antagonist. Is Eplerenone now validated for treatment of hyper-aldosterone? What is the equivalent dose to get the same effect?
