Guest guest
soon to be 16 is having some big problems, he is becoming depressed about his situation. He is desperate to be " normal " and to be treated as such, he is aware of his LD's and autism and utterly hates himself. No amount of talking to him is getting through because real life isn't panning out to be what we are saying. I don't think this is something that will be sorted with any biomedical interventions because 10 yrs of experience has left it's mark. At the school he is currently in it is about 50/50 split of significantly disabled children and EBD children. The EBD children pick on the disabled mercilessly, only yesterday he told me a child with cerebal palsy was referred to as " alien " by one of the EBD kids, the mums [sorry TA's] laughed along with him only saying " Oh **** What you like " ? I don't know whether we should take him out of the school altogether, the 5th school so far or just lumber on till July when he is officially done with school, being at home doesn't work either because he is now actively avoiding all social situations, he has already decided college is the same. He thinks any child who is particularly into youth fashion, ie piercings, hoodies etc is EBD and to be avoided and the rest of the population don't want to know him. Anyone else successfully dealt with this? He won't join any clubs because they are either full of normal kids or are too disabled. At a loss now what to do.
