Dan Steepe passed away on Dec. 18th from a massive heart attack. His sister notified one of our members, Carmin Entin. Dan was so much to so many here for many years and will be missed dearly. I will also post the link for the newspaper Obituary article about his services which I believe are tomorrow. One other request please from our older members. Dan and us oldtimers had a standing joke about Aliens and cyber mail. I had sent him a colander hat to protect him and he had returned a picture wearing the hat. I have since lost that picture with my old computer. His family is requesting a copy so if ANYONE has a copy , please send it to me today or as soon as possible please!! Lot's of love, I will have to send the Obituary in the next email. But here is the guest book link. Guest guest
Hello everyone As and have said Dan Steppe was a wonderful human being. In a world where family sometimes takes a back seat to other things, Dan loved his wife and family SO much. He was so proud of them all! To many of us here, he was the sparkle in the chat room on many a Thursday evening. We shared motorcycles, fly fishing and laughter. Reading the guest book is simply a reaffirmation of what kind of man he was. Intelligent, warm, caring and that great sense of humour will be missed. He will ever be in my heart, and I am thankful that he shared his time with us. Even though there were times when his own health was not the best he " sucked " it up. Another dear friend has been lost to us. Make the most of your time in this world, as well as you can, Dan's spirit will be around, another angel to watch over us! with deep sadness Cat mellymelt wrote: Hello our family here, I am so sorry to tell you of the news of one of our dearest friend's passing. Guest guest
Dan was a real neat dude. From his original terms (White Coats were Dr's) among others to his humor and knowledge. I spent quite a bit of time chatting with him, we got along well. I never had the chance to meet him, but we did talk of fly fishing together some day. As CCR said in a song " Some Day Never Comes " . I was just starting to get into fly fishing when we first started chatting, and thanks to him I have a few hundred bucks worth of fly tying equipment that I have no clue how to use. I've tried numerous times, bought books, yet can't get them to come out right. I am good at tying bass jigs though, and that has put a few bucks (nowhere near what I spent to be able to make them though) in my pocket and caught numerous nice bass in tournaments on my self made jigs. I lost touch with him about a year or so ago, and sad to say even forgot about him. You know how it goes...you get so tied up in your own life and unless you see (or in this case chat) with someone you tend to forget about them over time. I'll miss chatting with him, he was cool. I hope he's fishing up in heaven right now, except to drive him nuts I hope he's hooking into some huge smallmouth bass! We always argued over what fish were more fun to catch, and to my memory he never hooked into a smallie. He was a salmon (YUCK) and trout dude. I don't mind catching trout, but I'm not one that keeps his interest sitting in one spot catching smallish fish. Nothing to me beats hooking into a 3-4 pound smallmouth in heavy current watching it rocket out of the water multiple times trying to get off the hook! Plus I used to love tournaments, especially on the Susquehanna River. I had a streak going from 2001 through 2004 where I won something like 75% of the tournaments there. I no longer fish them as too much scum has become involved and now it's so much about the money that at least one person is accused of cheating (most times there is proof) that it isn't worth the aggravation to me. Especially when I consider that I used to spend roughly $15.00-$20.00 on gas per run, $25.00 for the entry fee to win maybe $80.00. Now they have payouts in the hundreds of dollars, and raised the entry fees and such to where they attracted a ton of scum. Even the club I was in became so money hungry that after a 10 year run, I resigned last month. I can't afford it, especially the gas. The " gentleman's club " turned into a cut-throat environment and instead of fishing local waters everyone wants to travel and fish larger lakes. I will miss a bunch of good friends, and even have people offering to pay my dues, but I can't take 8 hours in a boat anymore, and don't really enjoy it. After 2-3 hours my feet swell, my ankles and knees start to throb..so on & so forth. That's the kind of thing we chatted about most often. One day I found out he worked on a Railroad.....and my main hobby is railroad history, especially eastern railroads. I have a library of books that cost at least 5k, and it would be much larger now if only Mr. Stills didn't ruin my life..... I'll miss you Dan! Adios my friend.
