Guest guest
On Spiro 100 mg/d and smell is noticed. I suspect if you don't take a 2nd diuretic you have to sweat more and feel the smell more than just pee it out. Max. | |I have 2 questions for anyone who wants to answer. Guest guest
Hi Lettie, while I don't recall having that reaction on spiro specifically, I do know that every HTN med I've ever taken has caused this to happen to me - one of the reasons I'm so reluctant to go back on meds of any kind! Right now, with my PA untreated except for K tabs, I don't sweat at all. But as soon as I get HTN meds in my system, the slightest bit of warmth or exertion causes me to sweat profusely. And it's got a really strong, strange odor. I'm hoping someone else here can explain why this happens, and even better, how to deal with it! -msmith1928 45, nulliparous female, 5'3 " , 120 lbs, 1cm left adrenal nodule, supine aldosterone 28.5/renin 0.2, potassium <2.9 (when not taking supplements); 25mg spiro caused gynecomastia; no HTN meds; current meds are 20MEQ K 3x/day, singulair 10mg, norethindrone .35mg, cyclobenzaprine 5-10mg when needed, fexofenadine 180mg when needed; low sodium, fructose- and grain-free diet; known drug allergies include PCN, sulfa, tetracycline > > I have 2 questions for anyone who wants to answer. Guest guest
Thank you for the response. I have always sweated. In fact years ago I remember being so sick of it I asked my doc if there was something wrong etc and he said " just think if you didn't sweat how much fluid you would retain " . Well years later with this disease-I stopped sweating- low and behold retained fluid. It really isn't the sweating that bothers me so much it is the strange odor that I never had before. I didn't notice before the spiro at 200mgs a day. > > > > I have 2 questions for anyone who wants to answer. Hopefully they aren't stupid questions. Guest guest
from pubmed Human ovarian carcinomas detected by specific odor. Horvath G, Järverud GA, Järverud S, Horváth I. SourceDepartment of Oncology, Sahlgrenska University Hospital, Göteborg, Sweden. gyorgy.horvath@... Abstract The high mortality rate associated with ovarian carcinoma is mainly owing to late diagnosis. It is thus essential to develop inexpensive and simple methods for early diagnosis. Papers on canine scent detection of malignancies such as melanoma and bladder, lung, and breast cancer have recently been published in peer-reviewed journals, indicating a new diagnostic tool for malignancies. However, in these studies the dogs may have responded to odors associated with cancer, such as inflammation or metabolic products, rather than specifically to cancer itself. Therefore, it is important to ascertain whether or not human cancers are characterized by specific odors. We hypothesized that if ovarian carcinoma emits a specific odor, dogs may be trained to detect it. Using our training method, we taught a dog to distinguish different histopathological types and grades of ovarian carcinomas, including borderline tumors, from healthy control samples. Double-blind tests showed 100% sensitivity and 97.5% specificity. Moreover, the odor of ovarian carcinomas seems to differ from those of other gynecological malignances such cervical, endometrial, and vulvar carcinomas. Our study strongly suggests that the most common ovarian carcinomas are characterized by a single specific odor. Guest guest
As noted the dog get the ovarian carcinomas right 97% of the time. As to PA this would 97% then most Dr can get it right. > > > > > > > > > > > > I have 2 questions for anyone who wants to answer. Hopefully > > > > they aren't stupid questions. Guest guest
The smell difference is that of under arms. It is a mixture of natural sweat plus the smell created by Spiro...but the combined smell...no equivalent I know. Max. Does it smell like sulphur? rotten eggs? toe jam, feces, urine, ammonia or what?
