So I went for my 7 month fit test and was really disappointed that my body fat has only dropped down to 22% (from 30% in April).

I track all calories, fat and protein daily. I eat a well balanced diet without "junk food" or takeout and I make almost all food from scratch, I even use homemade pumpkin purée in my baking in place of fat or oil and substitute molasses or raw sugars...

I drink enough water I don't drink any caffeinated beverages I don't use dips or spreads ( other than peanut butter and almond butter )... I don't see where it could be my diet?

During the fit test she told me she was surprised and worried because she knows how dedicated I am to working out, I exercise 7 days a week every week! My measurements are going down everywhere but my abdomen ( my baby is a year and a half old now ) and I stopped breastfeeding her 4 weeks ago. Anyways I am frustrated because I workout very intensely I burn a minimum of 500 calories each time up to over a thousand depending on the workout! I know my bmr I don't go over my daily calorie needs and always go to bed hungry.

So I am hoping someone else has some helpful advice because I am just beyond frustrated right now. She suggested it could be a low thyroid and recommended I see a doctor so I go on Friday. My dad is diabetic so I suppose I could get that tested too.? Ughh :)

Actually, depending on who you believe, we can go down to 14-18% and still be healthy.  ACE says 14-20% for athletic, 21-24% for fitness, and 25-31% for average so that is what I go by.  As much as we workout, we can safely be in the athletic range.  Going below athletic or above average, though is when your health, especially the feminine systems, declines. ;-)

Hi Jackie!Absolutely!  I did a quick google search and it looks like women should not be under 20% body fat at any age!  So, you are perfect.  You need body fat for good health - hormonal balance, healthy skin, hair, nails, etc.  Guys have less body fat b/c their bodies don't need to feed or grow babies!

Thanks so much to you all for opening my eyes. I looked at both links andy body fat % is well within the normal healthy range. I am baffled how she (trainer at the gym) reacted though considering she must have known it was within normal range? And you may be right about the loose skin from pregnancy my tummy skin sags so much it's like an old wrinkled shoe lol Thanks so much for the encouragement you are all so very wonderful! I have progressed very far I have not been this small since my early twenties so I guess I should pat myself on the back and give a special shout out to Chalene for making such amazing workout programs!! :)

I should add to my rant that it sounds like you have made some super healthy changes (though I don't know that I agree with going to bed hungry, that would make me wonder if you're doing things in a sustainable way but if you are fine with it then it is not a problem). I don't know why the measurements at your abdomen are not going down except possibly it is because of stretched out skin from the baby and possibly they will decrease with more time? I can't imagine it is excess body fat!! As long as these changes are sustainable then this is all incredibly great, consider me impressed!!

The trainer I saw told me I was about 15% and she was concerned about it. She asked about my cycles (which were screwed up because of tamoxifen but are back to normal now that I've been off it a year and a half) and asked a lot of other questions that I later understood were screening to see if she should send me to my doctor! She was satisfied that i was fine though and my doctors have never been concerned (though they've warned me not to lose any more weight too and I'm fine with that). She was really good and I was really bummed that DH got laid off and I couldn't work with her after that initial assessment.

Ouch, , I hear you loud and clear about DH being laid off! Both my DH and I

were laid off within 3 months of each other. I also had to quit my health club,

which I really enjoyed. We've been keeping afloat with contract jobs, but our

COBRA benefits are about to expire. I need a permanent job with benefits!

yea!! be positive.. not all trainers have a lot of training and some use antiquated methods and info.. the 220 - age for heart rate is my big beef...keep up the good work.. i am a la leche league leader and i just wanted to let you know that even though

you have weaned your baby a month ago it will take a while for your body to

adjust. some nursing mom's tend to keep a little fat around the middle--and not

to worry it will go away--will just take a little more time. it is also true

that stretched skin takes a while (or if ever) to go back to it's original shape

(i have had 4 kids--i like to rub cream on it and massage the tummy area--gives

the appearance of smoother skin). you also may have a separation--the abs

muscles separate and stretch during pregnancy and it takes a while to get them

to come together again--work on your core as much as possible.

keep working out!! don't forget to take a rest or a light day every week. you

are doing great!!!!!!!

Hi Stacey, Is loose skin and separated stomach muscles also happen when I woman has a large fibroid that enlarges her uterus to a size of a 6 month pregnancy then she has an abdominal hysterectomy? Sorry for run-on sentence...... Anyway, the above is what I went through. I was thinking of doing ab exercises 6 days a week would that help or should I do them every other day? jen,

you can feel the separation if you are on your back and contract your abs by

doing a crunch and feeling with your fingers the area by your belly

button--where the abs come together. (i will find a better and accurate

desciption of that later and post it.) i'm sure it is possible that it could

happen to you. although they probably sewed you up after the hysterectomy--so

you may be ok. abs recover quickly so do them every other day and see if there

are changes.

Hi Jackie,22% body fat is really, really good. I'd say keep doing what you are doing, maybe give yourself a treat meal once per week to let your body know that it can release the remaining fat.

Are you eating every 3 hours? If you exercise in the evening are you making sure that you feed your muscles for recovery? How hungry are you before bed? You should be okay with eating three hours before going to bed, you shouldn't be too hungry before. Are you eating within an hour of waking up? You've got to break that overnight fast to get your metabolism going.

You should really throw in a rest day or do only a mild walk with stretching one day per week.I bet your belly fat starts going down...relax a little, get that cortisol down, with a little one your stress levels are probably high too.
