Guest guest
How was this diagnosed? Did the calf die. Was the calf nursing or bottle fed or weaned. What are they being fed. Listeria many times starts with management and does survive the pasteurization process. I would just find out the situation. Listeria can be an isolated incident. A Calf eating bad hay. I hear all the time how cows can handle moldy hay. Nonsense. http://www.merckvetmanual.com/mvm/index.jsp?cfile=htm/bc/51400.htm Good article.. Joanne Lamancha Dairy Goats 2 lovely Jersey Cows http://www.localharvest.org/farms/M22082 Listeria in a Herd I'd like to hear what you all would think if one of the calves in the herd you get your milkshare from came down with a listeria infection. ------------------------------------ PLEASE BE KIND AND TRIM YOUR POSTS WHEN REPLYING! Guest guest
The calf is recovering. It was diagnosed by a vet who said it would take a spinal tap for a definitive diagnosis. That has not been done. The calf was nursing. The herd is fed a mixture of hay and forage.
