Guest guest
Well you sure have more K than Na in the urine. So you make that criteria. However u are eating a he'll of a lot of sodium. DASH goal is <80 a day. What goes in must go out. This in PA will increase loss of K. But again if Blood k ok then what goes in goes out. Don't know about Mg but prob due to high intake. So lowering Na will likely enable u to lower Spiro. Guest guest
Yes. Here are the labs I have so far. Still a few not back yet.Interesting to note that PTH dropped back into normal range since I started to DASH (aka, cut back on salt intake) and stopped the HCTZ. I was expecting the opposite to happen. It also appears the so called "RENAL CALCIUM LEAK" has been plugged and my urine calcium loss is back to normal range. Facinating since I also cut my calcium suppliments from 2400mg to 1200mg per day. I am very pleased with the results on that front, but i sure am losing alot of Potassium and Magnesium in the urine. I see my doc on Friday and wonder if we should be doubling my Spiro intake to hang on to more of that? Perhaps I could then ease up on the potassium and magnesium suppliments. I am finding it hard to drink 24oz of low Sodium V8 every day, and the potassium pills dont agree with my stomach at all. Guest guest
I am "peudo" dashing, but it seems crazy high considering I am not adding any salt to anything and not eating more than 1500-2000mg of salt per day. That said even the low sodium V8 juice has about 600mg in the amount i am drinking on a daily basis. I guess I could be getting more salt than i think. I need to make sure that my home water softner is not treating my drinking water. I shoul dbe just on the hot water line, but I just thought about that as a possible diet source of salt. Not sure how much impact that could have, but maybe it is a factor. The only way i guess is to track exactly what i eat for a period of time. I hate doing that, so i know i wont do that long term. However, maybe i need to at least track it for a week to see exactly how much salt I am ingesting. ============================================================================45-Male-Caucasian, 5'9"- 234lbs, PA Diagnosed 2007 Suspected Hyperplasia-No tumors on CT - No AVS.Meds: 50mg Spiro, 1200mg Calcium, 500mg Magnesium, 100,000UI Vit D (weekly), 20mg OmeprazoleSide effects: Gynecomastia, stomach inflammationOther Diags: GERD, Hiatal Hernia, Metabolic Syndrome - PreDiabetic, Secondary Hyperparathyroidism caused by Renal calcium leak, Bone Cyct in left Femoral Head and Pelvis. Guest guest
I like the hot and spicy, but it doesnt really like me in the volume I am drinking it. 24+ oz a day is alot of bloodymary's...lol. I have to stick with the milder stuff. I know I could do better on the dashing, but I am not sure how much I am willing to commit to it. I almost have to admit that it is easier to just take the HCTZ, but draw back ifor me s that my singing voice suffers. I guess if I want to sing better I will have to decide what is more important. It would be so much easier to Dash if I lived alone. My family just has too many off limit foods around the house and I am not very good at saying no to them enough. I guess that is part of why the drug companies do so well. Alot of folks lacking the personal will to take care of themselves in the best way. Maybe someone should start a DASH camp. We go to a DASH convention for a few weeks and learn how to make better choices. Spend the whole weak eating DASH only foods. Then on week 2 you bring the spouse in so they get in on the lifestyle change as well. Oh well, just thinking out loud. I need to just do a better job of watching the salt it seems. Like Dr Grim says, I made it by the numbers, but still 4-5x more salt in my years than should be if I were truly dashing. I was loadedup on salt when I was low carbing. Maybe it takes a while to get all that out of the body? However, it has been like 6 weeks now. I think if i tracked it closer I might be getting more salt than i realize. Guest guest
WOW that is a lot of Bloody 's so that explains the 600mg of salt. HCTZ is out for me as it helped me get where I am regarding low K. I understand about family scenario. My husband eats a ton and has never had a weight problems so he eats whatever he wants and now I 'm doing my thing. Pisses me off sometimes but then I get over it. Social functions are based around horrible food choices so that is never easy either. It is a conscious decision and a hard one but I'll do what it takes. I never looked at labels so the last several weeks have been very eye opening such as the chicken. Hang in there buddy! I just amazes me when you start reading labels how nearly everything is salt loaded.  ============================================================================ 45-Male-Caucasian, 5'9"- 234lbs, PA Diagnosed 2007 Suspected Hyperplasia-No tumors on CT - No AVS. I now track weight watchers points, K and NA on daily basis so hang in there. :-) I eat a lot of chicken and was quite surprised that chicken has a lot of NA in it!! Kellie  I am "peudo" dashing, but it seems crazy high considering I am not adding any salt to anything and not eating more than 1500-2000mg of salt per day. ============================================================================ 45-Male-Caucasian, 5'9"- 234lbs, PA Diagnosed 2007 Suspected Hyperplasia-No tumors on CT - No AVS.
