Guest guest
Hello, I am a new member here, just recently diagnosed with RA. I am 33 and just had a baby in March. Has anyone experienced the onset of RA after pregnancy? I never had problems before and have read that pregnancy can put RA into remission, so I'm wondering if post partum can bring it on? Also, I am breastfeeding and my rheumatologist has said the low dose of prednazone (4-5 mg daily) is safe. I've done some research which says it is, but has anyone else used this while breastfeeding? I am trying to stay on the pred as long as possible before having to move on to the next level of meds which aren't safe during lactation. I'm glad I've found this list and look forward to talking with you all. Best,
Guest guest
Hi , welcome to our group and congratulations on your newest family member. I was diagnosed with RA in my early 20¹s but it was mild until after getting pregnant with my second child. Here are some articles that may help. In two studies, there appeared to be an increase in flare-ups of rheumatoid arthritis in breastfeeding mothers (nsen 1996; Brenna 1994). However, in another study, overall severity and mortality of rheumatoid arthritis was worse in women who had never breastfed (Brun, Nilson, and Kvale 1995). There have been no other studies showing any detrimental health effects to women from breastfeeding. http://www.lalecheleague.org/NB/NBJulAug01p124.html There are not many studies with any drugs in pregnant or lactating mothers. It is likely that some of the drug will pass through the breast milk. Prednisone in low doses are considered relatively safe. Prednisone should be taken about 4 hours before breastfeeding. http://www.coloradohealthsite.org/chnqna.html?Arthritis?Pregnancy?all DOES PREGNANCY HOLD THE KEY TO AUTOIMMUNE DISEASES? http://www.womens-health.org/0javascripts/dropinnav.htm?/understanding/Resea rchNews/researchpregauto.htm Center for mothers with rheumatic disease http://www.revma.org/default2.htm a > Hello, > > I am a new member here, just recently diagnosed with RA. Guest guest
Hi , I was diagnosed after my son was 4 years old. That was a little over 2 years ago. Sorry I don't have the experience with RA and preg, but you have found a wonderful site for information. I'm sure you will find some answers here. I am 35 and divorced. I have RA and am raising my son by myself. I am lucky to have a wonderful rheumy who answers all of my questions, but sometimes, I would rather talk to the " group " . I have found much comfort here and hope that you do too. Love and Hugs Stacey in PA
