Guest guest
I used to be a label reader. But now I just eat from the outer edges of the grocery store. No labels to read when I eat fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, chicken and fish. Saves alot of time in the grocery store now and my body is happier since I made the change. For sweetener for myself, I use stevia and coconut palm sugar. But stevia does not work and palm sugar is even more expensive. Looks like sugar went up all over. Even a local restaurant who gets it in 50 lb sacks is keeping stride with the price of every other one. What is the name of the latin market in MD? The Hillcrest in Frederick does not have any organic food. I can't find anyone else in a search of MD. I think it was Al who suggested such a store in MD. Lyn ----- Original Message ----- As far as I know the scobies can't survive without sugar of some form but we can. Clinical studies suggest that sugar is the root cause of a lot of illness. How ever if your a label reader you know that it would be very difficult to eliminate all sugar. Carbs, mainly in the form of sugar is the real reason behind high cholesterol. I'll bet your doctor didn't tell you that. Harry
Guest guest
I am sure everyone that uses Kombucha has asked the question about the healtfulness of using sugar, in some form, Lets just say that the word sugar is chosen to keep keystrokes down, by half in most cases, From reading of Guenther 's book on Kombucha and Harald Tietze's, and Bety's books; I have found not mention of Kombucha without sugar, I marvel at, and would actually enjoy , using 100% natural ingredients, like fruit purees, necters, or other sugar bases as a carbohydrate for Kombucha. Such pioneers, if they would, should share the volumes, and measures to equip the novice and unaccustomed to their more natural means of producing the Elixer of Life. I also ask myself what did the anceint Chinese, Nippon, and Manchurian cultures use as a carbohydrate? Are we tampering with a known thing or doing what has been done before? How did we come up with " sugar " as the carb neccesary? I hope that sugar, esp., white cane sugar isnt a main food for anyone. Prices are high everywhere, and have doubled in my area in the last 3 years for just about everything eaten. So i some , money plays a role. Some of us simply cannot afford a $30 salmon to feed 5 pple in our house, even if it is perferred to a 30 portion of steak. Humans can and will survive on whatever they eat, the true question would be : What happens in 10 years after surviving a diet totally deprived of carbs. No fruit, on pasta, no bread, just meats? What happens to the human body pales to what the spirit can enable us to survive. Back to Kombucha, If the yeast and bacteria eat the sugars we humans give to it, where is the harm. Unless we humans want more sugar and cut the fermentation (primary) short, and then do no 2ndary ferment drafting straight from the Brewing vessel.? > > As far as I know the scobies can't survive without sugar of some form but we can. > > Clinical studies suggest that sugar is the root cause of a lot of illness.
