Guest guest
My iron level was checked last week when I went to give blood. My level was 16 (under 12 can not donate) I am a vegetarian but rarely eat any animal products. I drink 16-32 ounces of KT a day. ________________________________ To: original_kombucha Sent: Sunday, April 8, 2012 1:20 PM Subject: Re: Really anemic since drinking KTcould it be the Black tea??? Guest guest
Wow, this stuff can get complicated sometimes! I became interested in oxalic acid recently when i had a kidney stone. It is the cause of one kind of kidney stone. There were references that said to avoid foods high in oxalic acid, but that includes a lot of good stuff. Beet is one of the highest, and i had been consuming a lot of beet kvass. We also read that calcium in the diet mitigates it, so i'm hoping the raw milk kefir we have daily will help. I'm also using chanca piedra to prevent more stones. If you think KT may be interfering with your assimilation of iron don't drink KT around meals or supplements. And if it really does reduce your iron maybe you can increase your dietary intake of iron until the effect tapers off (as the link from suggests happens). - Woody Subject: Re: Really anemic since drinking KTcould it be the Black tea??? To: original_kombucha Date: Monday, April 9, 2012, 9:31 AM Â According to the link to the article below occasional tea drinker can suffer anemia but consistent, long terms drinkers do not because their body adjust to the tea. The article explains it better. You should cut back for a while to allow your body to build up. You can also start drinking beet kvass. Beets are a great source of absorable iron. http://www.amazing-green-tea.com/green-tea-and-iron.html > > > > > > Hi everyone > > > > I am NEW here.. > > > > Thanks for the acceptance in becoming a part of this group I have been drinking Kombuchi made with Black Tea for about 2 months now.. > > > > BUT I started to get weak and sick feeling...just believing it was the detoxing going on, until I just could stand hardly anymore so I went to the Doc. and found out for some reason I have become really badly anemic.. > > She asked me what I have been doing lately that is different that could be contributing to this happening all of a sudden? > > > > All I could think of was I was drinking " BLACK tea " Kombucha and Kefir water...(here is something really interesting... Guest guest
Herbs that help with Iron Deficiency are: Alfalfa, bilberry, cherry, dandelion (greens, roots & blossoms), grape skins, hawthorn, mullein, nettle, red raspberry, shepherd's purse and yellow dock. My personal favorites would be Dandelion, Red Raspberry and Nettle, they grow nearly everywhere, are free if you know where to look and delicious! Plus they have folic acid, and many of the B vitamins, as well as vit C. Molasses is a good iron supplement, also cooking with Cast Iron Pans. > ** > > > Wow this was interesting... > thanks for sharing > > I have been getting leg cramps which I never have before... so to me that > seemed weird but I never thought it may be the KT > > And just today my husband went and got some liquid minerals which I see > has magnesium in it.. to help me absorb the iron plus taking a few more > things to help me right now.... > I also had my first batch of kefir water made with molasses and must say > it is the first time for over a week I have had a bit more energy and could > get up and walk around more.. Guest guest
I use Floradix Iron and Herbs for my monthly anemia and it works very well. Yellow Dock is another herb you could take. I have taken it in tincture form and had energy results within 15 minutes. I wonder about maybe even adding some iron rich herbs in with your Kombucha? Very interesting... so maybe this anemia is for just a wee time??? I am open to new thoughts for sure.. Beets is one food I cannot eat because it constipates me.. weird hey!!! But if I was to make what you call Beet Kyass.. what is that and how do you make it??? thanks for all you shared bless
Guest guest
I take potassium for leg cramps, as well as magnesium. Calcium is best taken with magnesium in a higher Mag ratio than Cal. Be aware that Magnesium will loosen the bowels!! Wow this was interesting... thanks for sharing I have been getting leg cramps which I never have before... so to me that seemed weird but I never thought it may be the KT And just today my husband went and got some liquid minerals which I see has magnesium in it.. to help me absorb the iron plus taking a few more things to help me right now.... I also had my first batch of kefir water made with molasses and must say it is the first time for over a week I have had a bit more energy and could get up and walk around more.. NICE thanks for sharing Bless ..
Guest guest
Beet kvass is a wonderful fermented beverage. It's really simple to make, just cut up a beet into pieces about 5 mm size and put in a half gallon jar. Put in a teaspoon of sea salt and a couple teaspoons of whey (i get mine from kefir, you can also get it from yogurt or clabbered raw milk). Fill with good water and let set on the counter for about 3 days. It's got the earthy sweetness of beets along with the tangy lacto fermented taste. Yum! - Woody Subject: Re: Really anemic since drinking KTcould it be the Black tea??? Guest guest
Sounds very good .. regards the yogurt culture .. am assuming I could try tofu yogurt instead of the dairy ferments ??? ...cause lactose free doesn't cut it for my GI, no matter how the school of thot claims that the fermentation breaks down all residual lactose .. tks Re: Really anemic since drinking KTcould it be the Black tea??? Guest guest
I'm not sure if kefir whey has lactose or not. The whey is the liquid part that separates from the curds when the milk is acidic (such as when kefir ferments). Our kefir is pretty sour, most of the lactose is probably converted to lactic acid. Even if someone were lactose intolerant it might not make any difference, you only put a couple of teaspoons in a half gallon and that is a very small amount for each serving of kvass. If you're concerned about it you can use some kvass from a previous batch, or some unpasteurized sauerkraut juice, and you can even order vegetable fermentation starters. - Woody From: changeyourlife8 < luvmylife@... > Subject: Re: Really anemic since drinking KTcould it be the Black tea??? Guest guest
> Do you think I could put the herbs you mentioned in the KT... or do you > think the Oxalic acid from the tea would interfere??? > bless > > I would recommend that any herb outside of Green Tea, or Black Tea should be saved for use during the 2nd ferment. Green Tea and Black Tea are the only herbs that we know support the pH levels that Kombucha needs in order to thrive and create a safe drink. The 2nd ferment time without the SCOBY floating in the Kombucha is necessary to allow the cultured beverage to become even more absorbable and digestible. It is also during the 2nd ferment time where you can add any herb, fruit or anything else you would like to flavor or enhance your beverage anyway that seems good to you. But I highly recommend the 2nd ferment time, as this just makes the drink bubblier, improves flavor, and seems to make it more absorbable and less abrasive to the gut.
