Guest guest
HI BelindaI do not know this brand.. One of the baddies in normal formula is glucose syrup.. Nanny formula is the only cows milk free formula which does not have this syrup in it and is the closest to mothers milk.. All my kids are lactose intolerant and all managed really well on nanny goat formula- because the goats live on green pastures the milk is particularly healthy. Neocate is pretty much made in the laboratory with few natural ingredients in it.. so whilst it will stop allergic reactions, I cannot judge if it is a good food source. Best WishesTracey Dear all wondered if anyone has used this, GFCF soya, etc free baby formula? I am breastfeeding my 5 month old but need a formula, as I would love to go out one evening and my lovely little boy is eating so much I can't express any milk any more. Obviously dont want to use any of the high st brands as they are all loaded with cows milk, and my eldest is severely Autistic with intense gut issues. Anyone tried it? Love Belinda ps thanks for all the weaning tips

Guest guest
Hi Belinda,My son has been on Neocate for 4 1/2 years, we started it when he was 24 months old and was diagnosed with autism. At that time he was still not eating a single bite of solid foods and was drinking 8 to 10 bottles of infant formula a day so he was drinking boat loads of Neocate when I switched him over. The switch to neocate did him the world of good and the combo of Neocate and biomed gut healing completely healed his gut as far as digestion is concerned. He still has Neocate at 6 1/2 as his milk and I don't mind giving it to him as it is so easily digestible and has a good amount of nutrition in it.Neocate is an amino acid based formula which means that it does not have long chain proteins that are difficult to digest. It is the formula used for premature babies whose stomachs do not yet have the enzymes to break down the long chain proteins that are in cows milk so if you are trying to avoid difficult to digest formulas and take it as easy on the gut for your child as you can, then it is a good formula for that purpose. On the US biomed lists, I have seen it recommended to parents as decent formula and many there even think that it is an excellent formulation. However, as Tracey says, it is not natural and I did always have some reservations about the fact that it is a manufactured product. But after nearly 5 years of heavy consumption, my son is doing really really well, his gut is healed as far as his digestion, and I don't see any adverse effects from the formula. Also, it is very expensive, I don't know if you know this - the cost is well over £20 a tin unless you have found it somewhere cheaper. Let me know if you have any other questions, I may know more but can't remember it now as I'm dead tired. ;-) All the best,Darla Dear all wondered if anyone has used this, GFCF soya, etc free baby formula? Guest guest
My DS reacted badly to neocate. I never really knew why but 2 years later and lots more unpicking him I suspect it was because it contains glutamate. At the time I was part of a reflux forum where lots of children with feeding difficulties did excellent on neocate. I couldn't actually get my son to drink neocate as it tastes absolutely revolting so if you are going to try it I would try sooner rather than later. Dietician told me DS was probably too old to accept it - he was 9 months. We used to mix it with foods to give added nutrition as his diet was so limited. Guest guest
Oh, yes, I forgot to say that too -Alison is right! Neocate does taste (and smell) revolting. I'm assuming this is because it has no lactose in it that the other formulas have so it is not sweet at all. I can't remember how long it took me to transition my son over to it but I literally had to introduce it gram by gram into his other (cow's milk) infant formula. But I was really determined as I really really wanted his gut to get better. And also, he had reflux and this really helped ease that as well as it moved through his stomach quickly and easily.Darla My DS reacted badly to neocate. Guest guest
Hi Belinda I transferred my now 18 month old over to it .We initially tried the nanny formula but it did give him loose stools .My little boy has been on the neocate combined with SCD meals and is top centile for height and weight .there is an advance formula for over 1's but he refused to drink it .His gut is in quite good shape but certain foods ar e not tolerated. He has fab language and social development so i am less concerned about autism now.The neocate is 50 euros a tin here and the Nanny formula is widely available in the supermarkets here (ireland) > >> > >>> > >>> > >>> Dear all wondered if anyone has used this, GFCF soya, etc free baby > >>> formula? > >>> I am breastfeeding my 5 month old but need a formula, as I would love to > >>> go out one evening and my lovely little boy is eating so much I can't > >>> express any milk any more. Guest guest
Hi guys, my son has been on necoate and then neocate advance since he was four months, he is now six and a half. he has many allergies including soya, his allergies have changed over the years he was allergic to a lot of things from red meat, fruit to fish and fruit... he still has allergies but they have changed. to be honest like another mother on this board he didnt eat any food when he was four months till about 3 so neocate was his lifeline ofr a long time. neocare made his poo green and slimy. he also had sensory difficulties as well as having a diagnosis of autism he now eats a varied diet, i have since tried him on soya milk but he still reacts, he is okay on oatly- but is is really expensive at £1.32 a carton i dont know about Ireland but i got his neocate on perscription, maybe that is why he is still on it..lol. i have only paid once for it when the wholsaler was on strike and i was forced to buy it off a auction website. he still asks for it now, it was drama when he went from neocate to neocate advance and his body reacted to it at the beginning but then he was okay after that.... to also add when he fist started neocate at four month he also had a bad reaction. he actually went black (he is brown skinned) but when i gave it to him again he was okay. the dietician didnt believe me when i told her but when she had recieved another complaint from another parent then she believed me... hope it helps! tbh i dont dilute it as it says on the packet, i just mix it in a cup now > > >> > > >>> > > >>> > > >>> Dear all wondered if anyone has used this, GFCF soya, etc free baby > > >>> formula? > > >>> I am breastfeeding my 5 month old but need a formula, as I would love to > > >>> go out one evening and my lovely little boy is eating so much I can't > > >>> express any milk any more. Guest guest
Hi,We tried this and found it made the constipation problems even worse - he simply stopped going altogether. I've since read and learnt that anything that is made into a powdered formula is very difficult for the gut to deal with. Like everything else I guess it depends on the individual child as to whether they tolerate it or not but for us it wasn't beneficial.JanetTo: Autism-Biomedical-Europe From: okudaisi@...Date: Sun, 13 Feb 2011 11:39:54 +0000Subject: Re: Neocate Baby Formula Hi guys, my son has been on necoate and then neocate advance since he was four months, he is now six and a half. he has many allergies including soya, his allergies have changed over the years he was allergic to a lot of things from red meat, fruit to fish and fruit... he still has allergies but they have changed. to be honest like another mother on this board he didnt eat any food when he was four months till about 3 so neocate was his lifeline ofr a long time. neocare made his poo green and slimy. he also had sensory difficulties as well as having a diagnosis of autism he now eats a varied diet, i have since tried him on soya milk but he still reacts, he is okay on oatly- but is is really expensive at £1.32 a carton i dont know about Ireland but i got his neocate on perscription, maybe that is why he is still on it..lol. i have only paid once for it when the wholsaler was on strike and i was forced to buy it off a auction website. he still asks for it now, it was drama when he went from neocate to neocate advance and his body reacted to it at the beginning but then he was okay after that.... to also add when he fist started neocate at four month he also had a bad reaction. he actually went black (he is brown skinned) but when i gave it to him again he was okay. the dietician didnt believe me when i told her but when she had recieved another complaint from another parent then she believed me... hope it helps! tbh i dont dilute it as it says on the packet, i just mix it in a cup now > > >> > > >>> > > >>> > > >>> Dear all wondered if anyone has used this, GFCF soya, etc free baby > > >>> formula? > > >>> I am breastfeeding my 5 month old but need a formula, as I would love to > > >>> go out one evening and my lovely little boy is eating so much I can't > > >>> express any milk any more. Guest guest
Belinda If my older child had severe autism and gut issues I would not risk trying any formula with my younger. It would get easier soon as he will start solids and will have longer breaks between breastfeeding. Both my kids have milk issues and that's why I decided not to give them any formula and breastfeed for a long time. The only time I didn't breastfeed my son was 2 months when I was pregnant with my daughter and it was too painful, we started giving him goat milk (he was 18 months) and this is when his problems started. I know that breastfeeding means not a lot of freedom but this is only for a 1-2 years, having a child with gut problems means years of treatments.
