Hi , you must have gotten some cheap chinese rubber bands. I've been using

some that i bought many years ago and they work on everything from quart jars up

to a huge 4.7 gallon jug. My biggest problem is when i don't pay attention

taking the cloth off and the rubber band goes flying who-knows-where. - Woody

I either don't have the right size rubber band, or they rot quickly.

Here's a better idea. Tie some heavy string (paracord is good) to one of those

silicone bracelet thingies. It will last and last. Look for a photo in my album,

's KT.

I have a hard time getting the rubberband on over the cloth. The top of my crock

is smooth and doesn't really have an indentation to hold the band, so I may try

's idea.

Hi I'm from New Zealand and have found the group really interesting.

I did use elastic the type that holds up your underpants lol. I purchased

it from our local sewing and material shop.

I now use stockings (nylons) or pantyhose - I can get one leg all the way

over the jar. They are thin and allow lots of airflow. Works well for me.

Sewing elastic works well for holding the covering on my jars. You can cut

whatever length you need and tie a knot, if it is narrow elastic, or use a

safety pin to hold the ends together if it is wide elastic. Lasts a long time,

too.
