Guest guest
I hope I am not posting too much. This is a new journey for me. Yesterday I gave everyone their first taste of Kombucha. Just 2 oz for each of the 5 kids, and 2 for my hubby. I took about 3 oz I think. I thought it tasted good, everyone else thought it was drinkable, but a little tart. I hope this isn't TMI but it moved some bowels in our house within an hour. I think it was a bit hard on hubbys stomach, he said he felt like he took an Am Pm (an herbal bowel cleanser that is quite strong.) That is good news!!!! I think I need to go with a sweeter brew for him though, and we all need to take it early in the day rather than later because my already energetic boys would not quit last night, and hubby had insomnia. I on the other hand slept, but had bizzarre vivid dreams in full color, with plot and audible music. This isn't particularly a new experience for me, but it hasn't happened in a long time. Unfortunately the dreams were the horror film genre. Quite disturbing. Seriously if I penned this stuff it would be as good as King, but I don't really want to subject anyone to that. I myself loathe horror films. I just wish I could have some vivid beautiful dreams. I have had nightmares ever since I can remember, as little girl they were very intense. And this is not stuff that is conjured up after happening in my life, or that I have ever experienced. My brain just seems to find bizzare things. Any way, sorry about that rabbit trail. I started a continuous brew for my second batch. Will try to keep it on the sweeter side this time, and take it in the morning!! Guest guest
How cool, Modiste, of you to share your experiences! re. " TMI, " I think most of us are aware of kombucha's ability to " move you, " lol. You are right that a less tart brew might not have quite as much an effect, but it's still good for hubby & the kids! Also, the longer they drink kombucha, they'll probably start appreciating brews that are more tart. Don't forget that you can mix a " young " kombucha with a " mature " kombucha (helps dial down the sour level). You might also consider mixing your tart kt w/ something else they would normally drink, such as fruit juice, or seltzer/soda water. After all, drinking kombucha should be an enjoyable experience, not a chore! Enjoy the journey, Vicki in Orlando > > I hope I am not posting too much. This is a new journey for me. Guest guest
Thanks! I got some apple juice today for the kids.  Can I mix the KT with my lemon/cranberry/ Raw apple cider vinegar drink? Will the raw vinegar be ok with the KT? Modiste, this should be fine, if not excellent. Raw vinegar has very similar microcultures as Kombucha has, and is very healthy as well, of course! Mixing these is a good idea, because you can easily mix it milder for the children amd your husband. My husband always dilutes his Kombucha (which I brew), with fizzy spring water - so good and refreshing!
