Sorry this is long, but I’m a woman on the edge ...

Joe has become increasingly aggressive over the past two years (he’s 16). He gets obsessed with something, becomes more and more uptight and focussed on it and then something minor happens and he erupts, e.g. he’s currently obsessed with Now CD’s, when one got scratched on Sunday and became unplayable he became very agitated and hit me several times. It took about an hour for him to calm down.

Over Christmas he was absolutely terrible and after repeated incidents he had a meltdown at my dad’s which ended with him being restrained by the police and spending seven hours in A & E in handcuffs while they decided what to do with him. I’m now fighting with social services to get some help – I’m a single parent so even having someone with me when I take Joe out would be great.

In order to get him home I agreed to medication and he’s now on Risperidone, and I also have epam for him for use in emergencies (though he hasn’t had any yet). He is sleeping slightly better and school say he’s more focussed, but it’s not really doing much about the meltdowns.

I’m scared that things are going to keep escalating and I’ll have to put him into care. I don’t think I can take many more black eyes.

Yeast has been an on-going issue and everything I try seems to increase yeast. He’s currently on GFCF diet, Houston Enzymes, CP1, Eye-Q, Spectrum Support, Zinc, Epsom salt baths, and OoO (rubbed into his feet as he won’t swallow tablets). TST calmed him at first, and we saw gains in awareness, motor skills and socialisation, but the third set of exercises sent his stimming through the roof and I’ve had to cut back to a couple of minutes a day of diaphragm exercises only.

I’ve seen taurine and inositol mentioned on here lately, does anyone have any experience of their effects on agitation/aggression?

I tried GSE for yeast but he didn’t do at all well on it, he seems to do best with lots of NoFenol for yeast, is there something else that would have a similar effect without having to take so much?

All suggestions gratefully received.

BW
