Guest guest
Love this article! I want to do the circus workout too! I was surprised at how many of these I *have* done.1) yoga boxing (dvd I have)2) pole dancing (took a class)3) hula hoop - who hasn't done that 4) punk rock aerobics - I have the book and at once time designed a class5) thug workout - I had the dvd at one point, though didn't actually do it - it's very hard, tons of pullups and pushups on the playground I'm AFRAID of the high heel workout!I bet Judy has done the dog workout, today probably! http://health.howstuffworks.com/wellness/diet-fitness/exercise/10-weird-workouts.htm#mkcpgn=emdh1 I want to do a circus workout! Guest guest
I have the punk rope dvd! Unfortunately I don't have the space inside to do it so I'm sorely tempted to buy the ropeless jump rope I saw linked here previously...NamikoTo: exercisevideos Sent: Tue, November 16, 2010 3:24:18 PMSubject: [Exercise Videos] Ten Weird Workouts http://health.howstuffworks.com/wellness/diet-fitness/exercise/10-weird-workouts.htm#mkcpgn=emdh1 I want to do a circus workout! Guest guest
I want to do the punk rock aerobics and the thug workout! I think I've seen clips from the thug workout and it does look hard! Hula hoops and I do not get along. Yoga boxing would be interesting to try, same with pole dancing (though I admit I'm modest enough that I'd be terribly embarrassed at first, then would probably enjoy it after I got over that). I get the idea of the high heel workout but ask myself.. why??? No dog workouts... I like dogs well enough but have no interest in working out with one except for walking or jogging (or Judy's competitions would be fun too). Re: Ten Weird Workouts Love this article! Guest guest
I can work the dogs (run them through a workout) but not workout with them (have them as a central part of MY workout). My sister-in-law used to show horses and she'd go out to the ring to "lunge them" (have them on a lunge rope and do whatever she did with them going around the ring). So, I could do that, but not have a horse (or dog or most other animals helping ME to workout). I have no doubts those doggies work realllllly hard though! Re: Ten Weird Workouts Love this article! Guest guest
I have thought about Hula Hooping, too. Someone on my FitFirmies list said it helped her back and I can see that - it would definately loosen up those tight muscles that we get from sitting too long. It would be a fun way to take a break from desk work! Guest guest
I don't have a link to the actual workout, but the Punk Rope website with a short video is here: http://punkrope.com/home/.The workout video itself gets mixed reviews because it's a very DIY affair, which puts some people off. I don't think it would be punk if it wasn't DIY and kind of rough looking, though, so your mileage may vary, of course. It still looks like a good, sweat-inducing workout -- jumping rope usually is for me!NamikoTo: exercisevideos Sent: Tue, November 16, 2010 4:08:51 PMSubject: Re: Ten Weird Workouts Punk rope! Guest guest
I'm not seeing the punk in this video, except possibly the guy leading it (is he wearing a kilt?). It is also a lot more than jump roping, which is what I expected. The classes do look like fun, play time though! I'll have to show my daughter the instructional videos though, she's in a jump rope club at school. The older (high school and up I think) kids that are part of the Jumpin' AllStars compete and perform all over the world! DD's in a show Dec. 3 and if it is anything like the one I saw last spring it should be really cool. Guest guest
Yes, he's wearing a kilt. :-) And the gym workout is a bit different from the video, although from what I remember the warmup doesn't have much jumping in it. The group is starting to gain momentum, I think, in that they just started a certification program for instructors to teach. They were previously limited to the Northeast (NYC, Philly, Boston) but they're branching out to all different parts of the country. Tim the kilt guy is very much into promoting jump rope as good fitness for kids (especially city kids), so I think it's great that your DD is a part of that!NamikoTo: exercisevideos Sent: Wed, November 17, 2010 12:55:32 PMSubject: Re: Ten Weird Workouts I'm not seeing the punk in this video, except possibly the guy leading it (is he wearing a kilt?). Guest guest
Yeah in the book I have Punk Rock Aerobics started in Boston in mosh pits, people would come there smoking cigarettes in concert going clothes and they would use bricks for weights, the pogo for cardio, etc. to uncensored punk music. I would LOVE to teach and take this! Yes, he's wearing a kilt. :-) And the gym workout is a bit different from the video, although from what I remember the warmup doesn't have much jumping in it. Guest guest
Okay, I thought he was! Too funny! It looks like a fun workout, I'll keep watching for it here. DD doesn't realize she's exercising when she does jump rope, she just thinks it is fun! :-) She's 9 so all exercise is just play time, which is what I wish it was for me too! Guest guest
I've seen those videos and that's what I was expecting. This looks more family friendly (which is good too, just not what I think of when I think of punk).
