Hi Kirsten,

Aluminum is a toxic heavy metal which accumulates in the brain and

body and can be absorbed externally (through skin and mucous

membranes) as well as internally. Aluminum toxicity can cause brain

disorders, respiratory disorders and cancer. the underarm area is

loaded with lymph nodes and aluminum applied in this area is

especially dangerous due to proximity to the breasts.

Thank you for the information. Where can you find deodorant that does

not have aluminum in it? My 10 year old daughter was diagnosed 2 years

ago with mild Aspergers and is now wearing deodorant....the kind she

uses does contain aluminum.

Kirsten,

It's the anti-perspirants that have the aluminum salts in them.

Deodorants alone generally don't, although most commercial deodorants

have a ton of other undesirable ingredients. You can find a bunch of

good natural choices for deodorant at he health food store and online.

Readily available brands include Aubrey Organics, Tom's of Maine,

, Lafe's, Terra Naturals, Nature's Gate and Burt's Bees.

If I may jump in, if you are concerned about PEG, Tom's of Maine has PEG.

Careful reading of labels is important. At most online stores you can read the

ingredients.

We use Lafe's Unscented Roll On becuase it's PEG free.

PEG is just the tip of the iceberg. NOne of the ingredients should be

preceded with methyl, ethyl, propyl, benzyl and butyl. These are

called parabens and they are toluene derivatives, which is a toxic

petrochemical compound. Parabens are believed to be carcinogenic, as

they act like estrogen in animals and in tissue cultures.

Triclosan is also dangerous. It's found in many anti-bacterial soaps

and hand sanitizers as well, which people bought up like crazy during

the recent fake flu " pandemic " . Triclosan is a pesticide, as it is

classified by FDA, and if it comes in contact with the skin, it kills

all the bacteria, good or bad, that live on the skin. Contact with

triclosan may cause dermatitis and it is also believed that it

contains some carcinogenic contaminants. Triclosan is stored in the

body fat and not readily excreted.

Other dangerous ingredient that can be found in deodorants is

propylene glycol. Propylene glycol is a neurotoxin and it may cause

kidney or liver diseases. Exposure to propylene glycol may also lead

to allergies.

Also, pay attention if one of the ingredients is steareth- " insert

number " (there are a bunch of them. It reacts with ethylene oxide,

which is carcinogen.

It is best to go for deodorants that are made using natural

preservatives like bioflavanoids, herbs or herbal extracts, de-

ionized water or distilled water, green tea, aloe vera, baking soda

and essential oils.

Though, I have always been aware of the precautions of Aluminum, my family and I

have used Mitchum deodorant for over 40 years. Having more than a DD cup, I also

apply it beneath my breast. I am not saying there is no danger. I am just saying

that it is the best solution to wetness we have ever found. I guess I would have

to read the actual case studies to learn whether there is a real diagnosable

link before I would consider a switch. I am guessing since Mitchum has been on

the market for nearly 50 years, no one has made that link apparent.

Sadly, lots of personal care and health products fall into this

category. About 1/3 of them contain at least once known toxin or

carcinogen, and although clear links do exist, they are not " made

apparent " to the general public.

All we can do is the best we can with the information we are able to

obtain and then make decisions accordingly.

Anti-persoirants block sweat glands preventing detoxification and this

is not healthy. The best thing to do is absorb the sweat once it

leaves the body. I do this with a combination of cornstarch, kaolin

clay and arrowroot powders in combination with deodorant ingredients

(baking soda, coconut oil and essential oils).
