Guest guest
Vivien Jon I know many parents have tried GFCF and reported that their children didn't respond. I believe there to be many variables to these assumptions. Please definately try this diet. It took us 6 months of daily consisitency, no cheating to see our son start responding verbally. Even then he was still very autistic. We did this at 31 months old. I can certainly guide you through the GFCF, but I hope that you will research further and look into Body Ecology Diet. It is GFCF but much more. I also believe based on my research and watching my son recover that the basic GFCF is NOT enough for many children. My son just turned 4 and after 18 months of intensive dietary intervention he is doing beautifully. He talks, answers, looks, plays, shares emotions, and he's becoming creative. The only issue we still have is making up lost time. He was completely in his own world from 18 months-31 months. We have delays and milestones to make up. Body Ecology addresses fungal infections, digestived health, and opening pathways. I would like to see every child do this 6 months-1 year prior to doing more DAN! protocols. I think if your gut is healthy, a fungal infection is conquered, and pathways open, you THEN can really benefit from other therapies. Your son is so young, I hope you will give this a shot. It is a lot of work, and life style changing, but WE HAVE OUR SON BACK! Yesterday we made binoculars out of toilet paper rolls. We each had a bag and went on a hike. We collected things and came home and made a book. I was in HEAVEN. 18 months ago he didn't verbalize and I was aching for him to call me Mommy or at least look at me. I can teach him and connect with him and I am greatful. I get no money or have no gain in sharing this info other than personal satisfaction. I wish I had known about diet at 18 months. Young children can heal so quickly. If you stop breaking the body down and give the body what it needs, it can heal. My son had foul diarhea and now formed. All with diet. Now he is absorbing nutrients to his brain. I have so much to teach you. GFCF cereal I think you mentioned is a fine place to start. At least you are removing these two proteins that will continue to destroy his digestive system. But much of the standard GFCF is not healthy and will not heal a sick child. If you want to learn more send me an email ruhesd@... Blessing to you and your beautiful child! Guest guest
18 months ECI 2.5 stopped ECI wasn't effective other than parent classes 2.5 son got Rota Virus had to be hospitalized, in those 3 days w/o food he changed. When we left hospital and he focused his eyes on a butterfly. Prior to this he just had a glazed stare at nothing. My husband and I both made eye contact. He's different. Something was different. We took him home and only gave him rice cake and water while I looked into diet more. He was terribly addicted. He only ate a few foods. He also had foul diarhea or constipated. No eye contact, no language, no processing, flapping arms, eyes watching his finger movements. He screamed or stared and we needed help. We had to do something. I called Spectrum of Hope. They provided a home program and worked with me very closely to understand what I needed. We used these techniques to get the diet under control. We had 3 hours a day and took all that they taught us and applied it the rest of the day to the best of my ability. So my son got 3 hrs ABA a day M-F, but we worked with him all day long using the techniques we learned. A year later our therapist said you don't need me anymore he's getting better. Week to week he slowly came back to us. Now he has delays and more clean-up but nowhere near the mess we were in. She said she would never have believed our story if she hadn't been in our home. He's 4 now and if he continues to progress he will be what we consider " recovered " by about 6/7. We still have intensive diet. Not GFCF, much more than this. A treat now is an almond, flax, carrot bar that I make on my dehyrator. A Chapman wrote: how much and what type of therapy intervention did your child receive in addition to the diet? Guest guest
Hi, Thanks for everyone that gave me advice and tips on my son's special diet. And I started yesterday with wheat free rice pasta, gluten free cereal, rice drink ('cause my son loves milk very very much, I have to find a replacement for him). And I added multi-vitamins for him. But he drank only half cup last night which he usually drank whole cup before sleep everyday. But thank god I tried again this morning, he drank them all!!! But I'll go buy different kinds of dairyfree today, see which one tastes more like milk. I live in Katy, Texas, which around Houston. , Katy gives out free program for early childhood autistic kids, start from 3 years old. My son started from last year half day first, for a year, now, he's full day from 8:20 am to 3:20 pm! They do a lot in school including speech, language, math, computer, motor lab, large play group, work jobs... I love it and my little boy took it really well, he loves go to school, and made him a lot socialized other than playing with only family members. I'm looking for people live around, maybe we can get together on weekend just maybe 1-2 hours to let our kids play together somewhere. I'm going to start writing down my little boy's progress in my space, if you want to go take a look and give me some more idea, everyone: www.halbb.spaces.live.com Thanks for your help, I wish I would have started joining this group earlier, and would have known where to start for my little boy since he was a lot younger. But 4 years old is never too late, I'll keep up, and hopefully special diet will help him. God bless all our children! Guest guest
For milk try goat milk is great! And also for cheese try tofu or store made like wal mart cheese or HEB they have very small amounts and no casein. Also I will highly recommend goat cheese. Guest guest
If you do not want to mess with enzymes ( my kids were aible to handle regular chesse from wal mart and HEB) cause they have very low % of casein they still do contain milk and soy, but I noticed a big difference from Kraft or velvetta chesse. for my youngest one vegetarian chesse helped a lot http://www.galaxyfoods.com/ourbrands/usa/vegan.asp ( is a sample does not need to be from there) Other's is goat chesse, goat cream and goat milk. Also, we removed all hot dogs that weren't 100% beef ( dimish a lot's of their steems and we also change breads ( substitute with rye, potatoe and pumpernickel bread) Organic pasta and sauce and fish sticks were always good as long as they did not had wheat. Thay are also taking Serenaid suplement. --- a Sell wrote: > You don't mean HEB and Walmart's regular cheese, do > you? If not, specifically what kind of cheese are > you referring to? Guest guest
My understanding is most breads contain Whey which is a milk protein which is a no-no in he CFGF diet. Also, it is not just wheat. It is the Gluten that needs to be removed. Gluten is also in oat for example. Guest guest
In some words this is he description of Serenaid and why to avoid the best you can casein or gluten. As I said with my children 2 of them did very good with the Great Value wal- mart and HEB chesse, but my third baby ( the yougest who also suffers eczema) had to have 100% casein and gluten free so we change him in to goat , vegetarian or tofu. Vegetarian cheese taste a litty funny, but since kids are more about texture and visuals, as long as things look like the real thing they were alright. Incompletely digested peptides from casein (milk products) and gluten (wheat products) have demonstrated an opiate or morphine-like activity in the central nervous system. These peptides, referred to in the literature as exorphins, casomorphins, and gluteomorphins may function as neurotransmitters and are similar in their chemical makeup to morphine. Healthy enzymatic activity leads to optimal digestive and cognitive health. Thus for those that are sensitive to these foods we recommend avoiding them to promote normal digestive function. DPPIV is an enzyme that increases breakdown of proteins and peptides as well as altering the cleavage profile of proteins when taken with food.* Such activity begins while ingested food is still in the stomach as opposed to pancreatic digestion in the duodenum. It has been suggested that a decrease of DPPIV could be the contributing factor to low levels of amino acid profiles seen in some individuals. --- jackie chalons wrote: > If you do not want to mess with enzymes ( my kids > were > aible to handle regular chesse from wal mart and > HEB) > cause they have very low % of casein they still do > contain milk and soy, but I noticed a big difference > from Kraft or velvetta chesse. for my youngest one > vegetarian chesse helped a lot > http://www.galaxyfoods.com/ourbrands/usa/vegan.asp ( > is a sample does not need to be from there) > Other's is goat chesse, goat cream and goat milk. > Also, we removed all hot dogs that weren't 100% beef > ( > dimish a lot's of their steems and we also change > breads ( substitute with rye, potatoe and > pumpernickel > bread) > Organic pasta and sauce and fish sticks were always > good as long as they did not had wheat. > Thay are also taking Serenaid suplement. > > > --- a Sell wrote: > > > You don't mean HEB and Walmart's regular cheese, > do > > you?
