Guest guest
Thank you Colleen for your input. I'm sorry that things worked out that way for you. It was hearing your story (and others) through this group that got me to take a more serious look at HCV and its impact on my health. I wish you all the best with your tx (you are starting soon, right?). My GI referred me to a Hepatologist with top credentials (research through liver transplant) as I also have Bipolar Disorder. When I saw them this past week, they recommended doing tx and with my set of health factors (age 50, good health, mild disease) that I would have a "better than 90% chance of clearing the virus." That's pretty convincing. I talked with them about waiting until summer and they said it's not a problem to wait until then. They require that your psychiatrist sign off and be willing to work with you through the tx. I had an appointment with my psych today and he says he has followed a lot of patients through tx. Some go through it easily and others have more difficulty. He recommended that I do it and he would support me. The potential psych factors do scare me and has been what has kept me from treatment in the past. Now, I just need to make the final decision. It is something I will consider prayerfully. My husband is an incredibly patient and compassionate man and he will be supportive no matter what. The only problem there is that he works a lot (50-60 hours a week) and I would still have a lot of time by myself. Oh well, something to consider in equation. Now, four years after my second biopsy, I had a third, and it has suddenly showed stage 3 - 4, grade 2 with mild cirrhosis. It really jumped in just four years. I wish I had done the tx after the first or second biopsy. Gastroenterologist doc recommended waiting until something better came along. I wish I hadn't waited. Colleen .
