Guest guest
This sounds like a behavior issue. When I say behavior I am not saying it is good or bad. My suggestion is that if he is working under an ABA therapist, you might want to talk to them about setting up a program to figure out a way to get him to sleep in his bed. There are some great BCBA's out there and probably some on this sight that could help you. I have a 6 year old who does something similiar and we are at a stage where we lay with him until he is asleep and then leave the room. It has been a long road, but it is getting better. Of course a 6 year old is much different from a 10 year old. I hope this helps. > > Subject: My son wont sleep alone > To: Texas-Autism-Advocacy > Date: Wednesday, August 20, 2008, 8:05 PM > My son is now 10 and he refuses to sleep in his own bed. > Usually he > tiptoes into my bed or his older brother's bed when we > are asleep. > he curls up on the far end of the bed so that you are not > aware of > him. Guest guest
I have a son that's 12 with a similar issue. He takes melatonin also. One of the side effects of melatonin can be vivid dreaming and in some cases these are nightmares. My son didn't say that he was having nightmares I had to piece it together. I had the option of switching rooms with his younger brother. We explained new room, new bed (really just new sheets) and let him help fill it with things he likes. It's been about 3 weeks and so far so good. I've only had one night of him getting into my bed. jazzzyt wrote: My son is now 10 and he refuses to sleep in his own bed. Usually he tiptoes into my bed or his older brother's bed when we are asleep. he curls up on the far end of the bed so that you are not aware of him. I have tried putting a mattress on the floor in my room and easing him out of my bed. Nothing seems to help. When I ask him about this, he just says that he doesnt like to be alone. His brother is 12 and starting to get pretty tired of his little brother in his bed all the time. Last night, my older son went to a friend's house for the night. The younger one, tried to get in my bed but I sent him back to his room, he waited a while and then paced the halls waiting for me to go to sleep. he finally fell asleep on the floor in the hall. This morning when I woke up, he was in my bed. He has a lot of anxiety porblems and had night terrors up until a year ago. We have tried melatonin and anti-anxiety meds, these work only if he is extremely tired. Any suggestions on getting him to sleep in his bed? Guest guest
I had a similar problem with my middle child. He didn't want to sleep alone, so we bought him a goldfish, which he named Dorie, and now he has a companion to sleep with. > From: jazzzyt <jazzzytyahoo (DOT) com> > Subject: [Texas-Autism- Advocacy] My son wont sleep alone > To: Texas-Autism- Advocacy@ yahoogroups. com > Date: Wednesday, August 20, 2008, 8:05 PM > My son is now 10 and he refuses to sleep in his own bed. > Usually he > tiptoes into my bed or his older brother's bed when we > are asleep. > he curls up on the far end of the bed so that you are not > aware of > him.
