Guest guest
Anonther quick question for CA parents...have any of you tried to get Social Security benefits for your children? I have a Nurse Case Manager assigned to us from the insurance company and she was asking me to check into that. ~Krista Subject: CA parentsTo: infantile_scoliosis Date: Monday, September 8, 2008, 5:55 PM Hi CA Group, Just wanted to let you know what I found out about the insurance information, basically not much. Kim the Dr.'s new scheduler, she says that she is new to writing out his procedure codes, but that she is not sure if he has changed the coding....really in a nut shell not very helpful. I left a message with Vernise the medical assistant. Oh and I also found out that I absolutely can not go in the day before the procedure for the pre op appt, "that is not the way we do it" is basically is all she said, even for families that live 3+ hrs away, one way!!. Hang is everyone, I know I'm trying. ~Krista
Guest guest
hi krista~ I do not think that our kids qualify for SSI~ they have to have a disability that is severe enough it impacts their ability to function. I have brother that is mentally retarded that qualifies...I know it is pretty hard to qualify~ I could not imagine scoliosis on its own would qualify... just thoughts... do not know for sure! it is so nice that you CA parents are able to meet and have a small little group! natalie CA parents To: infantile_scoliosis Date: Monday, September 8, 2008, 5:55 PM Hi CA Group, Just wanted to let you know what I found out about the insurance information, basically not much. Guest guest
You are right. I don't know what this nurse Case Manager is talking about. I just got off the SSI website and you are right, my son does not qualify. I will have to inform her. Guest guest
This just doesn't sound right. We've always had the pre-op with the doctor and registration at the hospital on a Monday and casting on Tuesday. Our casting dates for October are a Thursday and Friday, but that's because he will be out of the office for a couple of weeks and I asked him back in June that he cast Isabella before he leaves. I think the best thing to do is talk to Vernise. She is your best bet at getting through to the doctor. Just tell her you would like to talk to him for a couple minutes. He has always made himself available to us, but we do have to go through her. Krista, if you need me to drive to LLUMC to talk to the doc face to face, let me know. I have a great relationship with him and he has always made time to speak to me. I could give him your number and ask him to call you. I just don't see why you can't have your appointments back to back like ours. Don't let Kim discourage you, she appears to be very new to this process. Guest guest
Something similar or maybe the same was mentioned to us by another family when we were at LLUMC for Isabella's very first cast. Their child was there for her 3rd heart surgery, so I can see how they qualified and benefited, but I don't think we would. I just can't and don't see Isabella as disabled. We are lucky that her only medical condition is scoliosis oh, and torticollis that was corrected with therapy. I don't think I am in denial (am I?), but I just don't see her as disabled. It is still useful information to have in case the need ever arises. The one thing LLUMC did provide us with is paperwork for their charity program that covers medical expenses if you lose your insurance or cannot pay your portion of the bill. We might need to apply for that if this billing situation doesn't get resolved.
