Guest guest
If you have hyperaldosteronism, you should be on the DASH diet. That is about 4,500 mg of K and 1,500 mg Na. HOWEVER, your BP is so low, you might not do well on the DASH diet. I think you're over-medicated. Low sodium V-8 is an excellent source of potassium. No matter how many CTs you have, you'll never know if one side is the bad side unless you have AVS.   That adenoma they're seeing could be just sitting there looking dumb. Val From: hyperaldosteronism [mailto:hyperaldosteronism ] On Behalf Of bev2454 Ok, so why does it make me feel better after I've sweated buckets of sweat and I drink some? As I've said from the start, my initial dr. was not very good in the communication department. He was mid Eastern and difficult to comprehend. So I truly do NOT know what I need and don't need. Guess it's time to go read Dr. G's files... please be patient with me as I have not had much education other than what I've grasped at online... and not all of that is trustworthy.bevAnnieRomans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.check out my website: http://www.angelfire.com/tn/shepherdsrest/MorningGlory.htmlhttp://www.angelfire.com/tn/shepherdsrest/porch.html--- Subject: Re: new to groupTo: hyperaldosteronism Date: Saturday, July 30, 2011, 10:33 AM Gatorarde only has 30 to 90 mg of potassium. > > > > From: StudyCircle <studycircle@>> > > > Recently I am noticing new medical publications of adverse effects of HTN> > medicines with antidepressants. Guest guest
and Val, I see both of you talking about K and need to ask where is that measured? (In plasma or somewhere else I'm not aware of?) I am just getting started DASHing and am asking because my K in Plasma has been on the top end of the scale 4.5 to 5.0 (3.5-5.0)since I started on Spiro. Will this change with DASHing? Will the 3:1 ratio still apply! (Expect T. in next week and that may have my answers but I couldn't wait!) Guest guest
Dr. Grim's famous words " Show me the pee! " . . . it is measured in your urine. Either 24 hr or timed urine. I believe Dr. Grim has directions for this on the site, for more specifics. Have 24 hr urine test for Na, K, creatinine, aldo - the morning you turn in your jug (or jugs in my case) is when you have your blood drawn for other labs that should include plasma renin and aldo. I have also seen reference to urine dip sticks, but have not purchased or used these. > > > > > > > > From: StudyCircle <studycircle@> > > > > > > > > Recently I am noticing new medical publications of adverse effects of HTN > > > > medicines with antidepressants. Guest guest
It's found in Dr. Grim's Welcome Letter: 3. Collect 24 hr urine for Na, K and creatinine and aldosterone. Do not lose a drop of this liquid gold. It is impossible to interpret the renin and aldo without this. 4. The morning you finish the 24 hr urine have fasting blood drawn for renin, aldo and K using our guidelines to get an accurate K. Try to get this done about 1-4 hours after you have been out of bed. #1 & #2 refer to salt loading and what to do with bp meds prior to testing for the first time (I think I'm right on this . . . otherwise, I might be doing it wrong . . as I am re-reading this just now). Also note: serum k should be done without a tourniquet or your serum k levels may not be correct. > > > > > > > > > > > > From: StudyCircle <studycircle@> > > > > > > > > > > > > Recently I am noticing new medical publications of adverse effects of HTN > > > > > > medicines with antidepressants. Guest guest
I believe K is measured in serum. If your K borders near the top, I don't know how that would affect what you eat. Perhaps Dr. Grim will chime in. Val From: hyperaldosteronism [mailto:hyperaldosteronism ] On Behalf Of and Val, I see both of you talking about K and need to ask where is that measured? (In plasma or somewhere else I'm not aware of?) I am just getting started DASHing and am asking because my K in Plasma has been on the top end of the scale 4.5 to 5.0 (3.5-5.0)since I started on Spiro. Will this change with DASHing? Will the 3:1 ratio still apply! (Expect T. in next week and that may have my answers but I couldn't wait!) Thanks,

Guest guest
Plasma is better as serum tends to give falsely higher K. So always ask to have plasma K done. Guest guest
So now it looks like you have answered why I saw a jump in K in May 2010. I had 13 tests prior and all were 140 or less with 4 below the low end of the range (3.5-5.0). After that it has been 4.5-5.0 for 9 tests w/last 3 = 4.8. (Just to not keep any secrets, I started Spiro in May 2010 and they didn't remember to dc K suppl till Dec! It dropped from 5.0 to 4.8 and that is where it stayed.) Assume I could step spiro down a little but will wait a week so I don't upset Dr. Webster, she was quite explicit she didn't want ANY changes when I saw her on Friday.
