Guest guest
Thank you everyone for your replys! I am just now printing off and reading the articles from the website. And I will work on getting our xrays together. We have a lot of other combined health issues in our family and so I think the scoliosis was overlooked. Now of course I am feeling dismay because when he was about 5-6 months old I told the doctor he looked crooked -- his head shape and his back and I was told not to worry, time would take care of it. Tell me more about how to have our xrays reviewed by the doctors -- what do I need to do? That is truly amazing! Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Yahoo! Mobile. Try it now. Guest guest
many of us have found that our magnesium seemed to go along with our potassium. Guest guest
thanks . I was taking magnesium for a while. I think it was supposed to help with the abdominal muscle spasms(can't recall now) but maybe I was taking too much because it affected my, how can I put this politely, stools... maybe I could take a lower dosage or every other day or whatever... I was also deficient in Vit. D and when the doc put me on mega doses of it weekly, my depression lessened enough that I was able to get off the antidepressants for about a year. Guest guest
Thanks Max... usually my bp is in the range of 90/60. I'm on a low dosage of amlodopine/benazapril daily and the aldactone twice daily. I also take metformin daily for diabetes and victoza injections once daily for the same. Vit D, 50K units once weekly, trilipix for tryglicerides/cholesterol, and the lexapro for depression and xanax for anxiety. I'm also taking something for coating my stomach(h. pylori) and sometimes zegerid. By the time I get through taking meds all day, I feel like I don't have room for food!! When my bp drops down in the 70s and 80s over 50s is when I really get bottomed out. That's when the Gatorade helps... does this make sense? Does low K mean low bp? From what I'm reading, it should be the opposite. or am I just misunderstanding... there are some days that I just cannot think clearly when I try to comprehend all of this. I want more than to just "get by". I want to work aggressively at getting better. At the present time I am losing weight. Have lost about 28 lbs since last November, but the Victoza is one reason for that, and the stomach pain from the h. pylori adds to that factor... Guest guest
Low K causes muscle spasms. High Aldosterone is one reason for low K. Too much salt (Cl + Na) intake causes low K. What is your daily K=? If you K < 4.1 then you might need K supplements and/or higher dose of Aldactone. (my understanding Ltd.) Max. Guest guest
I'm usually not much on adding salt to foods... but there are times when I do seem to crave it or pickles, etc. But I'm not sure what you mean about my DAILY K. Is there some way to check it daily other than lab work? the last time it was checked it was in the low 4 range. bevAnnie Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. check out my website: http://www.angelfire.com/tn/shepherdsrest/MorningGlory.htmlhttp://www.\ angelfire.com/tn/shepherdsrest/porch.html > > Subject: RE: new to group > To: hyperaldosteronism > Date: Friday, July 29, 2011, 12:11 PM > > > > > Low K causes > muscle spasms. I had been having uncontrollable hypertension for a number of years, but I figured it was uncontrollable because of the dysfunction with family members. Plus I had teenagers... LOL! The drs. started worrying about my heart and in '98 I had my first angiogram. Everything was fine, the dr. just recommended I lose weight. I had a second angiogram done in '04 and that is when an observant nurse realized my K was 2.8. They gave me a couple of K tablets and did the angiogram, with the same results. Healthy heart. They wouldn't let me go home though and I stayed in the hospital for 4 days while they ran tests, calling in a nephrologist. My K dropped to 2.5 and I was forced to wear a holter. One night it malfunctioned and the nurses come in bringing a crash cart... I was fine, until they woke me up!! LOL!!All in all, I've done well on Aldactone twice daily. If I sweat too much, (who doesn't, living in Louisiana?), or have excessive urination or diarrhea. Then I'm about as useless as can be. It takes me a couple of days to "catch" up. I find that drinking Gatorade or foods with high potassium content help. But I'm not sure that this is the healthy way to do this. I am being seen by a wonderful endocrinologist now that has come to town just since I was diagnosed. Still, I don't know enough about Conn's to truly understand it. When first diagnosed an MRI was done and they found no tumors so I was told it was hyperplasia(I think that's the correct word). Within the past year I had an abdominal ct scan that revealed a small nodule on my left adrenal. Another ct scan in March showed it had not grown. So we're just watching it now. I'll have another one done in the very near future. Right now my greatest problem I am having healthwise is my nerves are absolutely shot and I shake and tremble a lot. I've gone back on antidepressants and am taking up to 3 .25 mg of Xanax daily. If I don't take the Xanax, I am a mess. I don't know if any of you can shed any light on this or not... do any of you have similar problems? I've not shown any signs of going thru menopause yet, so I am thinking it could be that. It could just be life in general... it's been a hectic 2.5 years(I'd rather not get into the gory details). Or could it be the nodule that has shown up that is affecting my adrenal gland? I do have an appt. in the near future with all 3 of my drs. My p.c., gyn. and endo. Thanks for taking the time to listen and also for any comments you can throw my way...bevAnnie

Guest guest
We need to focus on the PA first. If we get that controlled the other problems will mostly betaken care of. Tiped sad Send form miiPhone ;-)May your pressure be low!CE Grim MDSpecializing in DifficultHypertension thanks . Guest guest
You are on BP MEDS that do not work well in PA BenAzapril for example. Recommend u stop them but talk with dr and read my evolution article. Tiped sad Send form miiPhone ;-)May your pressure be low!CE Grim MDSpecializing in DifficultHypertension Thanks Max... usually my bp is in the range of 90/60. I do think someone lied to us about those "golden" years. Guest guest
You most likely are having angina due to prior LVH with normal coronary arteries and now low BP. Recommend you talk to team about steppind down current Rx.Esp if you start to DASH. CE Grim MD The highest that it ever got was 203/139 to my knowledge. That scared me enough to seek professional help. I've been on all kinds of meds for it and the latest was what I'm on now, the amlodopine/benazepril. The nephrologist did take me off the meds for a short while but my bp started climbing up. They seem to want it to stay where it is... in the 90/60 range. It's not much for being energetic, so there's not much exercise going on... since I've been having greater anxiety lately, I'm feeling more chest discomfort and my bp has been going up some, but it's still running only about 100-125 over 70s and sometimes 80s. this sometimes climbs higher at the doc's office tho. bevAnnieRomans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.check out my website: http://www.angelfire.com/tn/shepherdsrest/MorningGlory.html http://www.angelfire.com/tn/shepherdsrest/porch.html--- Subject: Re: new to groupTo: hyperaldosteronism Date: Friday, July 29, 2011, 7:48 PM Need to tell us more about your BP. Guest guest
Sorry I haven't replied to all the emails yet this morning. It's been hectic here and my MIL is not doing well at all. Having said that, I have never been told to watch my sodium. I don't know what the recommendations are. I did look it up and the sodium content for the Gatorade is 110 mg per 8 oz. For the most part I don't drink a full 8 oz. at one sitting. I'm wondering why my first dr. didn't tell me about the sodium. I'm guessing the endo assumed I already knew about all of this. As far as the AVS, my endo says it's risky, and he'd rather watch the nodule than to jump right in and do this. He would send me to Houston, TX to have it done because he doesn't do it. I'll run through the emails and see if I have missed any of the other comments/questions for me... thanks everyone!!! bevAnnieRomans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.check out my website: http://www.angelfire.com/tn/shepherdsrest/MorningGlory.html http://www.angelfire.com/tn/shepherdsrest/porch.html--- Subject: Re: new to groupTo: hyperaldosteronism Date: Saturday, July 30, 2011, 10:08 AM depending on what kind of Gatorade you drink sodium can be 100 to 200 mg in 8 oz. > > > > Recently I am noticing new medical publications of adverse effects of HTN> medicines with antidepressants. Guest guest
Ok, so why does it make me feel better after I've sweated buckets of sweat and I drink some? As I've said from the start, my initial dr. was not very good in the communication department. He was mid Eastern and difficult to comprehend. So I truly do NOT know what I need and don't need. Guess it's time to go read Dr. G's files... please be patient with me as I have not had much education other than what I've grasped at online... and not all of that is trustworthy. bevAnnieRomans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.check out my website: http://www.angelfire.com/tn/shepherdsrest/MorningGlory.html http://www.angelfire.com/tn/shepherdsrest/porch.html--- Subject: Re: new to groupTo: hyperaldosteronism Date: Saturday, July 30, 2011, 10:33 AM Gatorarde only has 30 to 90 mg of potassium. > > > > From: StudyCircle <studycircle@>> > > > Recently I am noticing new medical publications of adverse effects of HTN> > medicines with antidepressants. Guest guest
Hi there . . . Dr. Grim will tell you to " DASH " (anti-hypertension diet)like your life depends on it . . .and it does! I am a big proponent of DASHing, as I have seen my swinging blood pressure become much more consistently in normal ranges. I am so very grateful to Dr. Grim for pushing all of us to DASH. So simple, yet with profound benefits. Shame on all of our dr's who didn't tell us of this from the beginning stages of hypertension (I too was not told of DASHing until Dr. Grim consulted on my case). This should be the FIRST thing that we are told of! That being said, you will want to pay attention to every single bite/drop that goes into your mouth. If you need to, keep a log at the beginning so you can keep track of what you are doing. The ultimate goal with DASHing is to consume no more than 1500 mg sodium per day and no less than 4800 mg potassium (when you see " k " mentioned in our group, that is the chemical symbol for potassium/ when you see " Na " mentioned in the group, that is the chemical symbol for sodium). Another way to think of this is 3:1, 3x more k than Na. Following the DASh diet plan will also make your diet rich in magnesium and calcium. Start reading labels on EVERYTHING. You would be amazed at how sodium is hidden in foods. Watch out for: - Bread - Chips and crackers - Packaged or frozen chicken - Drinks - Frozen dinners - Bacon - Deli Meats (Cold cuts) - Condiments - Canned foods - Dining out (as you have already shared about Chinese food) I have multiple food allergies and cannot adhere strictly to how the DASH book outlines eating. However, if I just remember the 1500/4800 guideline, I do incredibly well. 1500 mg Na = 2/3 tsp salt. It will take some time to re-train your pallet and can taste the pure food without salt. Once you do though, food becomes even more delicious! When I don't adhere to the guidelines - boy do I pay for it later! Try it . . . you will be amazed at the changes you will see! P.S. I believe there is a file in our group on high k foods. You can also google high potassium foods and print out a list to keep in your kitchen. My favorite foods that count: - toasted, unsalted almonds - raisins - Lara Bars (usually have 400 mg k in each bar) - avacados (more k than bananas) - yams (no butter, just plain) - any berries - greens - any fresh fruits You will see Dr. Grim advise drinking low salt v-8 juice (do not drink regular v-8 - too much sodium in it). Hope this helps! > > > > > > From: StudyCircle <studycircle@> > > > > > > Recently I am noticing new medical publications of adverse effects of HTN > > > medicines with antidepressants.
