Guest guest
The one material I have definitely become sensitized to is, alas, the glorious and wonderful Mitti Attar. It is one of my all-time favorites. I don't seem to be sensitized to the fragrance of it, but if I dab even a little on my skin directly, within fifteen minutes I become very nauseated and become quickly congested as well. It doesn't happen with sandalwood oil, and it doesn't happen if I wear barrier gloves and am careful to avoid any percutaneous absorption. I'd love it if I could wear it, but I can't... I started this thread to remind people to be careful. As my student, you have read all the safety and workshop precautions in the textbook. Very few people develop these sensitivities, and even then, it's usually just to one or a few aromatics. Good ventilation and quickly washing off any spilled on the skin (which I did NOT do with the oakmoss) are often enough. Think - otherwise we'd have no perfumers or workers in distillation companies! :-) Anya McCoy http://AnyasGarden.com http://NaturalPerfumers.com http://PerfumeClasses.com
Guest guest
Anya, It bears repeating that sensitization is permanent, there is actually a change in the immune system of the person affected. Regarding Hemla's statement about inevitable buildup of materials, I would suggest everyone in the aromatic as well as perfumery field use a liver detoxification supplement. I also take a couple of drops of organic lemon oil daily. Lemon regulates the digestive functions and promotes production of bile. And though lemon is also known to reinforce our immune systems I use a bit of lemon myrtle and oregano vulgare (84% carvacrol) daily on the soles of my feet. Hope this helps. Many mushrooms also support a healthy immune system. Dara
Guest guest
>I know of at least two people so sensitized to lavender that they have had to leave the aromatherapy profession. I understand sensitization to be different from allergy. Maybe someone can outline the differences or I could probably find a resource if needed. Sue< Hi, Sue:Recently, I have had inflamed sinuses from the use of essential oils. I am sensitive to pink peppercorn and lemon grass. ÂThese EOs actually cause pain in the sinus area and headaches. Since I didn't develop a rash, I would have to say that I am just very sensitive to some EOs and not necessarily allergic.Achoo!Best Regards,Margo www.miraculousbeads.com
