Guest guest
Dear All, I have a friend who is really struggling with her son. He is 9 years old with various diagnoses including mild ASD, DCD and hypermobility. She is getting no help from the NHS and I wonder of this is because they do not know what to do. His biggest problems at the moment are migraines and heavy nose bleeds - these nose bleeds can happen several times a day & at night. His legs also swell up. He has been hospitalised with the severe nose bleeds and he can lose excessive amounts of blood which can consist of large clots. He had HSP and when he had the henoch schonlein purpura, he had it on his legs first then hands to elbows, then his genital area. A few weeks later it re appeared on his head and face. He was quite poorly with this and he suffered from temporary junior arthritis in mainly the knees and hands. He has been put on Piztifen 1mg at night for the migraines and referred to a Clinical Psychologist as whilst this is not Chronic Fatigue it is best to manage it as though it is(these are the Paed's words not mine!!!) When he was born he had positive swabs for group B Strep and was in SCBU and given intravenous antibiotics. He has ahd pneumonia and recurrent tonsilitis. Blood tests have revealed a clotting disorder. Apart from TST can anyone suggest what might be going on and how my friend can help her son. She is desperate now as she has put in a complaint to the PCT and all help has been suspended following the complaint. Many times she has been labelled herself by the professionals. I have suggested that she contacts the Breakspear. Many thanks

Guest guest
sometimes nose bleeds in boys can link in with dentition.. and with pressure within the brain... I have heard of good results with cranial osteopathy for the nose bleeds. Is he clotting problem that it clots too fast or too slow... Tash used to have a slow clotting issue.. the doctors forced Vitamin K onto us.. though we did demand natural and not synthetic.. and they are now bored of pursuing this and she does not appear to bruise as easily as she used to... In fact this is one of the things that has changed since TST. Low oxygenation would affect many of the things showing as symptoms.... Regrettably.. mainstream medicine is simply not designed to help in many conditions our children face.. and sometimes I now think..having fought too many battles, it is better to conserve the energy and use it to connect with the right therapy which is most likely not mainstream Tracey  Need to look to correct whatever is found in the full blood tests - red/white/lymphocytes etc - about 50 markers  And try to get some Genova urine and stool tests done also to correct metabolic abnormalities in amino acid tests  Thats the first things > To: Autism-Biomedical-Europe > From: m.kidson60@... > Date: Wed, 2 Feb 2011 10:34:02 +0000> Subject: Re: Help for a friend please - any ideas?> > Last assessment BP was 116/80> > > > > > >> > > > > > Is his blood pressure high? > > > > > > > To: Autism-Biomedical-Europe > > > > From: m.kidson60@> > > > Date: Wed, 2 Feb 2011 09:12:50 +0000 > > > > Subject: Help for a friend please - any ideas?> > > > > > > > Dear All, I have a friend who is really struggling with her son. Guest guest
Hi All, Thankyou for your replies. Tracey - I have mentioned the dentition issue + TST. Blood tests did apparently show blood clotting abnormalities. Vicky - sorry to hear of your migraines - I will mention food intolerances. Your bleeding eyes sound horrendous. is - physio was about to be sorted, my friend was told that they might not be happy to provide it because of the complaint. She then received a letter discharging him from physio! e bruises very easily as well, I was thinking about Vitamin K. > > Has he had physio and supports for his hypermobile joints? > -- > is >
Guest guest
proper breathing will sort hypermobile joints too...physio can divert oxygen to muscles further reducing an already compromised oxygen flow to the brain... So it may be a blessing in disguise that physio has been withdrawn... I think that the solution she is seeking is not likely to come under the NHS banner. Best WishesTracey  Hi All, Thankyou for your replies. Tracey - I have mentioned the dentition issue + TST. Blood tests did apparently show blood clotting abnormalities. Guest guest
Henoch-Schönlein purpura (HSP) is an IgA-mediated, autoimmune If this means he needs to raise IgA then Sachromycees Boulardii and Epicor have been shown to do just that (special types of brewers yeast - good types) Mx http://www.patient.co.uk/doctor/Henoch-Schonlein-Purpura-(HSP).htm
Guest guest
OMG light bulb moment, Sam doesn;t bruise badly easily like he used to, taking Vit K2 now Mx Anyway this was the case for my son, he used to have horrendous nosebleeds and bruised really easily, i have fixed this by supplimenting Vit K2. Guest guest
I should be very interested to know of any evidence that everyone with hyper-mobile joints, including Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, would get better if only they were using the TST. I think it's very important not to go over the top, Tracey, with your advocacy of TST. You are misleading people with excessive enthusiasm. Others have posted about this before. It is not a universal panacea. My son's hyper-mobile joinits were directly caused by his self-injurious behaviour. He screwed and pushed and twisted his fingers to the point where he now has severe ligamentous laxity. The only thing that would cure it would be if his joints were splinted for months on end,to rest and immobilise his hands, so the connective tissue could recover. The recovery of his ligaments is absolutely NOT a matter of building muscle strength or of doing TST. Some people have poor quality connective tissue for genetic reasons. Margaret I have already posted that I should be interested if there was any way of improving connective tissue quality through diet or supplementation of the diet. > > > > > > Has he had physio and supports for his hypermobile joints? > > > -- > > > is > > > > > > > > > >

Guest guest
Is his kidney function being monitored? HSP can lead to long term kidney damage? I would be worried about the swollen legs. Guest guest
Hi , my goodness the poor lad he sounds as if he has been and is still really poorly. I'm not surprised your friend is at her wits end, especially the way the nhs are treating her!!! Here is a site about HSP that quite often GPs (well they do at our surgery!) use to look things up for patients: http://www.patient.co.uk/doctor/Henoch-Schonlein-Purpura-(HSP).htm You could show your friend this so she can check whether they have done all they should have for her son. Also reading through the site it does mention all the symptoms you describe as being part of HSP. The only one i couldn't find was the nosebleeds, but i googled HSP and nosebleeds and found a forum where parents were discussing HSP in their kids and some were having horrendous nosebleeds, so that could be part of it as well. The condition they say is 'self-limiting', but he obviously is having trouble shaking it off so his immune system is not functioning as it should. Taking him to the Breakspear would be a good choice if she can get there, Dr Yeoh is back i believe (some one will correct me if i'm wrong) and she has a background in immunology if i am remebering correctly, so she would be a good choice. She does need to push the NHS though if she can, difficult i know, but from reading the above i see that HSP can have severe complications, ie renal problems, so imo it is bordering on negligence for them to do nothing. Is he having regular urine tests do you know? You mention that he was found to have a blood clotting disorder, do you know what this is, ie is his blood clotting too much or slow to clot or what...? The reason that i am asking about this is because of all those antibiotics he was given as a baby would have most probably affected the integrity of his gut wall, that is made it leaky and would have destroyed all the bacteria in his gut, good and bad, especially if your friend didn't breastfeed him after then. Some of these bacteria we get from our mothers through breastfeeding. If he is lacking in bacteria that manufacture vit K in the gut, this could be a possible reason for the disorder (and the nosebleeds). Anyway this was the case for my son, he used to have horrendous nosebleeds and bruised really easily, i have fixed this by supplimenting Vit K2. Whenever i run out of this and am slow re-stocking his nosebleeds come back! Hth, Nikki x > > Dear All, I have a friend who is really struggling with her son. Guest guest
Nikki, Thank you so much for this. The blood tests said: Significant prolongation of APTT The results also said that he should be referred to a haemotologist - they have done nothing about it!! I'm not sure about bordering on negligence - almost negligence itself! > > > > Dear All, I have a friend who is really struggling with her son. Guest guest
Mandi - thanks that's brilliant info. I knew that you would all come up trumps. > > Henoch-Schönlein purpura (HSP) is an IgA-mediated, autoimmune > > If this means he needs to raise IgA then Sachromycees Boulardii and Epicor > have been shown to do just that (special types of brewers yeast - good > types) > > Mx > > > In a message dated 03/02/2011 10:16:03 GMT Standard Time, > nikki-mills@... writes: > > _http://www.patient.co.uk/doctor/Henoch-Schonlein-Purpura-_ > (http://www.patient.co.uk/doctor/Henoch-Schonlein-Purpura-) (HSP).htm >
Guest guest
Hi , Read all about what this means in depth here: http://www.labtestsonline.org.uk/understanding/analytes/aptt/test.html#aptt_list .....they memtion Vit K in this paragraph: A prolonged aPTT usually means that clotting is taking longer to occur than expected (but is associated with increased risk of blood clots if due to a lupus anticoagulant) and may be caused by a variety of factors (see the list below). Often, this suggests that there may be a coagulation factor deficiency or a specific or non-specific inhibitor affecting the body's clotting ability. Coagulation factor deficiencies may be acquired or inherited. Several factors are vitamin K dependent. If a person has liver disease, for instance vitamin K deficiency, they may have one or more factor deficiencies. Inherited factor deficiencies may involve the quantity and/or function of the factor produced. .......so imo he is definitely in need of some vit K2... Guest guest
Nikki, That is really helpful, thankyou for your research. My friend is already extremely grateful. Apparently the various Dr's have kept saying that there are no long term effects of the HSP and that all the nosebleeds etc. are not connected! Typical! > > > > > > > > Dear All, I have a friend who is really struggling with her son. He is 9 years old with various diagnoses including mild ASD, DCD and hypermobility. Guest guest
This might be worth a go for me as I, myself seem to be getting bruises all the time. I keep thinking it's because Sheri must have jumped on me or I might have been trying to control him. uzma > > OMG light bulb moment, Sam doesn;t bruise badly easily like he used to, > taking Vit K2 now > > Mx > > > In a message dated 03/02/2011 10:16:03 GMT Standard Time, > nikki-mills@... writes: > > Anyway this was the case for my son, he used to have horrendous nosebleeds > and bruised really easily, i have fixed this by supplimenting Vit K2. > Whenever i run out of this and am slow re-stocking his nosebleeds come back! >
