Hi!

My last couple of batches of yogurt came out stringy and slimy. I used my crockpot and a purchased live cultured yogurt for my culture. Does anyone know what went wrong?

Thanks,

Darlene

What was the temp of the crockpot that it

was incubating in? My guess was that it was too hot and you killed the

culture.

Tina,

I use the low setting on my crockpot...around 100 degrees. Then I turn it off and let it cool down for 3 hours before I add the culture. The yogurt kinda acts like watery glue....it stretches and is runny at the same time. Do you think it is safe to consume? The raw sheep milk was only about 2 days old. This has happened a couple of times already. The previous batches were fine. One time I added dry kefir culture instead of yogurt culture by mistake. Another time I also added unflavored gelatin to thicken it. I added it at the time I added the culture. Do you think that had something to do with it?

Thanks, Bill. I used a live cultured yogurt for my culture. What is the best culture to use?

Your culture or milk is probably contaminated. Clean everything thoroughly used to make the yogurt, and get a new starter culture.
