Hey everyone,What a great day it has been. Devyn is perfectly straight now.His Ortho said this is the best xray he has seen. So after casting for six months, going through bracing for seven months and being at 9degrees and letting his spine see what it was going to do he is straight. Yeah!!! The Doctor said that sometimes after training the spine to grow straight with casting and getting tham under 10degrees most the time the spine will finish correcting itself during growth spurts. WOW!!! this could be the best time in your life. Hearing this news is kind of inspiring for me who is still eager to get to that finish line which is zero degree. sorry, but I already lost track what degree did you start casting?

Great news on Devyn. I was a little disappointed in our recent visit that they could measure a 5 degree curve on Dylan's x-ray. We were told he was "perfectly straight" after his last cast was removed and we were hoping it would stay that way. But still, 5 degrees is great and hopefully the brace will correct that 5 degrees in the next few months. We are hopeful that Dylan will be able to take his brace off in a few more months

5 degrees is great! But, I understand wanting the total perfection of a "completely straight" spine... I think I remember from the DVD or the Mehta article "Growth as a Corrective Force" that sometimes small listings do occur during growth spurts, but eventually correct themselves..... Hopefully, this is the case and Dylan goes to 0 again.... But 5 is amazing! I'm sure I'm more than that!!!! LOL Steph

But 5 is great! For the last year Devyn has teetered right around

10 in the brace down to 8 then to 0 and then back to 9. Now with a

good growth spurt and no brace, back to 0. We go back in 2months for

a follow up xray to make sure he is still at 0. The road is long and

sometimes difficult but so well worth it all in the end. With Devyn's

Chiari we will never be hospital free but with the scoliosis so low

we will at least get to go less often. Also if I remember right most

doctors say if the curve is under 10 then they start to look at the

asymetry and make sure the shoulders, breast bone, and hips are as

evenly aligned as they can be other than stressing at getting the

spine to 0. I also know that a curve under 10degrees is actually not

considered scoliosis and is normal. Stay positive and he will get

there.
