Guest guest
Jeanne, I think it's a historic reference that persists through the ages. Arctander says: --------------------- Since the geranium oil from Reunion ( " geranium Bourbon " ) seems to decide the price of all other geranium oils... and Also called Geranium Bourbon from the old name of the island of La Reunion (Ile de Bourbon), Geranium Oil, Reunion is the most important of all the geranium oils. --------------------- Also, the name Bourbon persists for the vanilla grown there/Madagascar, also. The Bourbon family was very powerful, and their legacy lives on through, at least in part, some of the aromatic products from their former " Ile de Bourbon " , afterwards named Ile de Reunion, then Madagascar. The oil from Madagascar (bourbon/reunion) is typically superior to ones from other areas, so aromatherapists and perfumers give it the old name for reference. At least that's my take on it. Guest guest
And is the Geranium Bourbon considered a " Rose " geranium or is it all in the scent of the particular oil?
Guest guest
> >> Ile Bourbon/Reunion is not Madagascar. >> I had a reference which I cannot find right now, that calls all the island in the vicinity of Madagascar " Madagascar islands " , including Bourbon/Reunion. Even Arctander writes about the " blend " of the brand: > From *Madagascar *and *La Reunion* comes the > so-called *Bourbon *Vanilla, named after the island > of Bourbon (La Reunion) where the curing method > was developed. Guest guest
Three cheers for Sophia, all very true!!! But I will stress that by convention, perfumers prefer the Bourbon type, all others try to imitate that product. Albeit, in today's world, and innocent noses, the Chinese grade may be appreciated as Bourbon, as so labelled. -= =-
