I have always heard to disregard the first BP reading of the day. I still write

it down in case the doc needs it or is curious. However, Dr. Grim, my doctor,

and other specialists have always recommended to take 3 readings in the morning

and then average the last two.

Why do doctors recommend to throw out the first reading? What is the medical

reason for this? Is it only based on anxiety, or is there a medical explanation

why the first reading is not accurate?

Just curious about this. My second two numbers are always so much better than

the first. I always thought it was due to anxiety, but wonder if there is a

better explanation.
