Guest guest
WOW Steph!OMG......I know you were freaking out! I am glad you did post about it.....I didn't realize it could happen that easy.I am glad she is fine.TashaMommy of twin boys- and 3 years oldFort Worth, Texas is 7.5 degrees and brace free!!!Casting 14 months and bracing 10 monthsSubject: bad move on my partTo: infantile_scoliosis Date: Tuesday, July 22, 2008, 9:14 PM Hi All.... I wasn't going to post about this in case any of you thought that I was short on common sense, but decided it may help someone... So.......... ... Every night, Noelle jumps up and down on my bed and flops down on her back. Then, she reaches her hands out to me and I pull her to the sitting position because, in cast, she cannot do a "sit-up". Last week, as I pulled her to sit, I felt a click in her left arm and it suddenly went limp and she couldn't move it. She was screaming in pain.... I had pulled her elbow out of socket. I felt horrible!!!! !! Luckily, the pediatrician on call directed me and my husband on how to pop it in place and she was fine within minutes.... (Thank GOD!!!) I took her to the doc the following morning to check it and we were good. Apparently, it can happen more frequently after a first episode. Now, I have to place my hand behind her back to pull her to the sitting position. We have played like that for months before this happened... I never expected it. Our kids are top-heavier than most, so I just wanted to let you know what I did and caution pulling up your child by the hands..... Guest guest
So welcome and thanks for the understanding.... I wanted to let you all know it can happen so easily and "freakily". It was quite painful for her and scary for us, as well..... Steph Subject: Re: bad move on my partTo: infantile_scoliosis Date: Wednesday, July 23, 2008, 6:54 PM Hi Steph,Thank you so much for posting that and no, you are not short on common sense. I am pretty sure most parents have done this. I have read articles about it, but I never thought it could happen by just helping a child sit up. Your post had very valuable information and I will rethink how I help my child sit up. Thank you.Olivia>> Hi All....> I wasn't going to post about this in case any of you thought that I was short on common sense, but decided it may help someone... So.......... ... Guest guest
People keep asking how many more casts for and I am afraid to tell them that this could be the last one because I don't want to jinx it. I also do not want to feel let down if we have a few more casts. This has been such a roller coaster. I have learned that I often assume when I shouldn't... I will take nothing for granted. We are scheduled to go back Aug. 13th. It should have been the week prior but our doc is out of town that week. They offered July 31 but Matt is taking the older kids on a vacation with his family to MIchigan ( and I have to stay home- no sand in the cast!!!) I wish our dates would overlap. How has your summer gone? Has Noelle survived the heat? We have been gone- Hilton Head Island ( stayed off the beach), to St. Louis and friends' lake house so I have been able to post lately. It is good to hear Noelle is feeling better. (other son) was feeling fine as soon as the doc got his elbow back in- weird it was like flipping a switch. As others have said, "We live and learn." I am so excited to hear how your visit goes. Please post the second you get a chance. I will be thinking of you! Guest guest
Steph, I think this experience was probably harder on you than little Noelle. This happened to my Uncle once with one of his little girls, except I think he dislocated her shoulder.. He was swinging her around/ wrestling, etc...I think they ended up having to go to the ER to get it back into place. Anyway, it happens....Try not to feel bad about this common accident and thanks for sharing. It will help someone out there, for sure! I forgot all about this and will think twice before I rough house (swing/wrestle) with my little nephews. Thanks for being so open about it. Guest guest
That happens sometimes. I wouldn't have thought it either. hrhandco wrote: Steph,I think this experience was probably harder on you than little Noelle.
